**Seattle Mariners 2024 Season Thread ** | ELIMINATED |

a55, Saunders was pretty good when healthy and he's not that old. I'm going to miss him and I'm not a fan of Pax/Tai for one year rentals unless they extend.

Thing with Kemp is that he's decent in right, has power, and will have a couple of years left, which isn't bad if LA eats about half of what he's owed.

Jack Z and Beane must be buds. Trading players they don't like away for scraps. Although I'd much rather have Lawrie than some lefty bum like Happ. A Mariners buddy has already deemed him Crapp for that 0.8 WAR he's carrying.

Saunders wasn't my favorite simply because he was living off "potential" and durability issues. But he was on the rise, young, and we are thin at outfield positions. Now, what will happen? I cannot stand for more Endy Chavez, I hate James Jones, and Cruz in RF is a joke.

Lord, I pray they stay away from Cespy.

He went to a park built for his strengths and couldn't muster a .300 OBP

I can only imagine what he'd do full time in Safeco.

Quick thoughts on JA Happ; he'll be serviceable, in my opinion. SP depth hurt us during that final stretch run last season and in a park like Safeco I think he could replicate the type of 2nd half he had last season with Toronto. Posted more quality starts than anyone in that rotation to end the season just didn't show in the Win column - Toronto had major offensive woes with guys like Encarnacion, Lawrie, Lind all missing extensive time.

I feel as a #4 of #5 starter, this team could do a whole lot worse. Wouldn't eem be surprised if another starter gets added soon after another bat.

Just saw the M's updated prospect list, and I'm really excited for Alex Jackson. I'm still hoping Austin Wilson gets it together soon because his power is needed, but it looks like DJ would come up first at this point.

11:00pm: The Mariners are indeed ramping up their pursuit of Cabrera, writes Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. Heyman adds that the Mariners are believed to be willing to offer something similar to the four-year, $57MM contract they used to lure Cruz to the Emerald City. He also notes that the White Sox, Reds, Royals and Giants have all been linked to Cabrera.

Don't sleep on Pat Kivlehan. Primarily a football player at Rutgers, he's a guy whose getting better and better at an outstanding rate - his numbers trend upward at each and every level of baseball he's played in. Definitely one of my 3 favorite specs as of now. Love everything I've seen from DJ, same goes to Alex Jackson.
Yeah.

Kivelhan has been primarily a 3rd baseman, so obviously we'd probably hope to see him get some OF in this spring and at AA or AAA. I know he's spent some time at 1st base, but we know D.J. is the future.

Rosenthal says we're very interested in Melky. He doesn't hit for a lot of power and wants a long deal. Ugh. Just don't trade away the golden 2 pitchers, whatever you do Jack.

How would you guys rate the off-season if Z is able to land Melky?

Obviously there were other names most of us seemed to be interested in but that time seems to have passed.

If more than anything like Finns mentioned, I would be at minimum happy that we did not let go of Tai, Pax and even Kuma

I'd be cool with it. As mentioned, he doesn't hit for power, but that's ok. He gets on base. A great #2 hitter and he further solidifies the lineup. If he can hit for his career average of .286 then that's perfectly acceptable given the lineup that should be around him.

Listening to the radio yesterday, im all in for Melky.
Its either him for 4/86m or Kemp for his contract and giving up a prospect
