The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- Cannonier, Imavov, Reyes, Rosas on NOW

First time i've fallen asleep watching a UFC card

Dude I literally just woke up, I can't believe I actually legit fell asleep

Dana on the post fight show:

Arlovski/Schaub should've been on the prelims. Said Schaub is crazy if he thinks he won outright cause it was a close fight. And Arlovski looked slow and soft.
He wants Rory to finish fights. Thought he had Woodley rocked but didn't go for the finish.
He said that Woodley choked. And he chokes in big fights.
He likes Dodson next for DJ but wouldn't commit.
And he basically committed to winner of Lawler/Brown getting next title shot.

As ridiculous a reactionary Dana can be, that all pretty much makes sense.

Only thing I would ask is how does Woodley choke in big fights? His 3 losses are Rory, Marquart and Shields. I guess you could say he choked against Rory and Marquart (for Strikeforce title).

Other than that he has some notable wins in Condit, Kos, Daley and Saffedine (eventual Strikeforce champ)

Agreed. T-Wood didn't seem to be able to pull the trigger, though. Saying any top-level fighter "choked" is stupid, but Tyron left a ton on the table tonight.

Rory had him shook.. as bad as Rory had Penn and Ellenberger shook, albeit the Ellenberger fight was a snooze.

Seemed like Woodley was bothered by Rory's reach.

I just need Rory to go for finishes because while impressive, he doesn't really put on those captivating performances, those thrilling or even exciting shows. I want to like him but right now I'm not a big fan. I was impressed though no doubt in his last two fights. I want him to go for finishes

It's not that Woodley chokes, it's he isn't who he hypes himself up to be.

He is a one trick pony and the good fighters know this and take it away from him.

I'm not big on ifs, but let Condit get a rematch and watch him pick Woodley apart. That freak torn ACL wasn't part of the game plan for Woodley. It's a fight, **** happens. Just so happens it was in Woodleys favor.

The great fighters are well rounded, skilled in all categories. Rory displayed that last night. Hendricks, Lawler, Rory, Condit. Well rounded guys at the top of the division. Woodley will never surpass them with his current skill set.

Eh, Woodley was picking Condit apart though before Condit tore his ACL.

Hardly anyone is who they hype themselves up to be in boxing and MMA.

I fully believe Woodley is top 10 in his division, he was just outclassed by another top 10 fighter last night. Woodley was evolving to be more than just a wrestler so we'll see how he bounces back.

Look at how Lawler reinvented himself. It took him a little bit to become this well-rounded and complete. There's still an outside chance Woodley can do the same thing Lawler did. No need to write Woodley off just yet, especially since he doesn't have a lot of mileage. He is already 32 but who knows, he could have a second peak in a few years.

Idk if this helps, but Ariel and Dana were talking about the Rory/Woodley fight. Then he asked him what he thought about Woodley/whats next for him cause he was calling Dana all of the time and posting things on social media saying he wants the next title shot. Thens when Dana said he chocked in the fight and how he chokes in big fights. I'm assuming he's talking about the Shields and Marquardt fights.

Woodley has all of the tools to be at the top. I think his major problem is his cardio. He comes out in the first round and throws some bombs and is really explosive. But second round and beyond and he starts to slow down big time. During the Condit fight everyone was expecting Condit to come back in the end of the 2nd and 3rd rounds and just pick him apart. He's similar to Lombard. In the 1st they're both throwing bombs but in the 2nd and 3rd they get tired and try to utilize their wrestling and judo in Lombard's case, so they can take it to the mat and conserve whatever energy they have left.

One of Rogan's go to lines is the "this guy may have too much muscle mass". Rogan always always always comments on fighters who have a lot of muscle. He always says they gas easily because muscles need more fuel/oxygen and blood cells. Could be Woodley's problem, but last night I think it was more Rory being so long and unorthodox/diversified that threw Woodley off.

Seems Woodley struggles when he's getting walked down.

Nate, Jake and Rory all won by being in his face and applying constant pressure.

Rory was super impressive imo. He's probably going to have to fight the Dong/Lombard winner for the shot after Brown/Lawler.

The main event was werid... Mighty Mouse is a great fighter and that fight was constant action but same time it was boring as ****. I really don't get it.

I didn't even learn about lactic acid buildup and more muscle using up more oxygen in my physiology classes. I learned that stuff listening to ufc commentary.

Condit would have beat Woodley?.. that's pretty debatable because Woodley was taking it to Condit. Condit aint want any of it.

Condit would have struggled to beat Woodley over 3 rounds because of the takedown.

But Condit is super active off his back and in scrambles and can maintain a ruthless pace. Over 5 rnds i think Carlos wears him down and finishes Tyron for sure.

Rubber guard. No one more active with strikes off his back than NBK.

Two rematches we need to see for Condit are Rory Mac and T-Wood.

Kimbo to Bellator? If true Bellator is going for the circus/clown show route. I could see them bringing in Roy Jones Jr next to fight Rampage in a boxing match.

Bones Jones just rubs me the wrong way with his interviews
laugh.gif

Ariel: "Are you annoyed that you had to share the cover of the EA video game with Gus?"

Jones: "...........Umm............. yeah originally I was annoyed... then I became flattered by it. I mean a close fight with me completely changed this guy's life"

Jones: "His self-esteem has definitely risen. He's definitely treated like a huge star and maybe even a champion. Again, I'm extremely flattered by it.. the biggest name he beat was Shogun.. and now he's some star. I'm flattered by it. It just goes to show you where I am in the sport."

Jones: "People thinking I was scared to fight Gus was ridiculous considering what I've been doing since the age of 19."

Dude acts like a baby. I hope Gus breaks both of jon's eye sockets then kicks him in the junk.

Well he isn't lying.

I like Jones soo much better when he's himself.

There's no place for this we wishing serious injuries on guys now?

Grow up.

Well damn :lol

Missed this weekends card. Settled in on "free" boxing on HBO instead.

Sounds like I made the right call even though I enjoy watching DJ fight.
