The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- Cannonier, Imavov, Reyes, Rosas on NOW

Condit v Lawler at UFC 193.

Kampmann is leaving TAM as their head coach. Staying on until they find a replacement.

Rusty, I'm right there with you in hoping Aldo washes "McGoat".

Don't really have a problem with Conor, just not a fan of the Roman Reigns-esque push Dana has been giving him, especially how they treated Aldo in the lead-up to their fight.

You're comparing Connor to a pro wrestling push? Unlike Reigns, Connor can talk and has actual talent inside the cage. When he was given the ball, he made something happen even more so if you believe the knee injury rumors.

So, does TAM go through a new head coach every year? Faber should still run the operations, fight, etc but defer coaching/training and some gym decisions to a competent coach.

Lol this thread. I like Connors fighting style and his quick wit is ridiculous.

Aldo may win but Connor in that head.

I'm with both of you guys as well. Aldo will take Conor's leg home.

Khabib's knee trash. Not going to be ready to fight in October, now hoping for December. Gotta see Nate in there. Who cares, just make the fight

Wow, didn't realize Alliance's coach is a full time fire fighter and only comes to the gym 3 times a week

Alliance head coach Eric Del Fierro is known as one of the best in his role in all of MMA. But he is a full-time firefighter and only at the gym three days a week. The fighters departing did not feel like that was enough for them.

"Eric is a great coach, but he's really hands off," Jury said. "He has a hands-off approach. I needed somebody who invested more time into me.

"I don't have anything against Eric Del Fierro or Alliance. It's just what I need as an athlete, they really couldn't provide it for me. Me and Eric left on good terms. I don't have any animosity or bad blood with him. It was just time to move on in life."

The MMA Beat was discussing the UFC's the next move...

I think they would be remissed to not attempt to put together that once in a lifetime card with Ronda vs Fighter and Aldo vs McGregor. They could include Weidman or Cain perhaps as well. I don't think they should wait until UFC 200, I would do this card in December or January. Hell they could put CM Punk on the card and REALLY SWING for the fences

They should capitalize on whatever momentum they've gained with Ronda and Conor and parlay it, rather than have them headline two different cards

This is the UFC's chance to really attempt to swing for the fences and draw in a large volume of new fans. You have the international crowd, the women.. that is their chance with the mainstream

I already think they made a mistake by not putting the Dublin card on Big Fox. Anyone tuning in to that card should be hooked

HAH. Finally someone of note brought up the fact that Condit got the title shot instead of Woodley. The MMA Beat said it was the wrong match up but everyone's just over it

Just glad someone acknowledged it because it makes ZERO sense when you look at resumes and common sense

Seems like the analysts now are feeling that the UFC belts are losing luster, it's been building according to them

They've been saying it. Gustafson getting the shot over Bader.

This is just the latest nonsensical championship matchup.

Yeah for some reason I wasn't as up in arms about Bader getting skipped but now thinking about it clearly, it's ridiculous. In fact they are rushing Gus back in there too quick against a guy like DC. Another loss this soon after the Rumble fight and Gus might not ever be the same mentally. You saw how hard he took that loss to Rumble, he almost quit the sport

Why not let Bader get in there and capitalize on their beef

Because no one is interested in seeing bader fighting dc. That fight wouldn't sell for ish
Eh, the beef would have made it somewhat relevant. The point is, Gus has absolutely no reason to warrant a title shot

If you're going strictly for ratings and PPV buys then do away with rankings and titles. It's a slap in the face to the real fans when you consistently make matches that don't make sense based on wins and losses

As fans we have to understand that the ufc is a business. Abd We all know its a really shady one at that. But in this case i think they gave fans what they wanted. Bader vs dc would be a snoozed fest

Yeah I think we understand that, but there needs to be a line drawn somewhere

For me, I understood fully why Conor was getting the title shot ahead of Frankie. I had no problem with that

Gus is a whole different situation

Bader earned his title shot, 4 wins in a row, albeit no he isn't the greatest contender. Giving the shot to Gus, coming off a devastating KO loss is crossing that line IMO

I'm sure you could have said the same thing plenty of times during Anderson's run or GSP's run but they still made the fights that made sense. They kept true to their contender ladder for the most part

These days and over the past few years we've seen a consistent pattern of matches that don't make sense based off wins and losses. They didn't use to operate like this

They can do what they want, it's their business, I just don't think they should expect everyone, especially the true MMA fans to accept it like sheep

Yea ppl acting like gus is a big draw here, he might be in Sweden but he's not a big name here. They could easily played up the whole beef thing with Bader. Hell they got another story line with cain being dc training partner and being Bader teammate from college n friend
