[Synopsis/Campaign]
The game will immediately follow the events of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, where the Russian Federation continues its invasion of the United States of America, and has also expanded its offensive to Europe, including England, France and Germany.

[Multiplayer]
Tne new multiplayer mode in Modern Warfare 3 focuses on gun to gun action. Recoil is more apparent and explosions have been toned down a bit from Modern Warfare 2. Most importantly the knife has been nerfed by players appeal. Gone is the super lunge, as R3 has been balanced and tweaked for gameplay. There is a new point streak/strike package that replaces the previous kill streak system in the past call of duty. There are now 3 different "strike packages" for killstreaks called Assault, Support, and Specialist. The Assault strike package works the same as the default killstreak reward system in Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops, offering killstreaks like the predator drone and helicopters. The Support strike package offers support-style rewards such as UAVs and SAM Turrets. Unlike previous games in the franchise, the Support strike package will not make the player's killstreak reward reset upon death, but instead, accumulate over the course of a match, and performing certain objective-based actions will add to the player's killstreak. The Specialist strike package rewards players with perks instead of killstreaks. After every second consecutive kill, the player will receive a perk of their choosing, and after eight kills, they will receive every perk in the game, but will reset back to none upon death.

In MW3 you can shuffle through your strike packages, this was not possible in past call of duty games.

[Spec Ops]
There are two different modes in Spec Ops, Mission and Survival. Mission mode is a mode similar to Modern Warfare 2's Spec Ops co-op mode. It will feature various missions such as timed missions or objectives, as opposed to survival mode's wave-based gameplay. Survival Mode is a new mode featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's Special Ops mode in which players must fend off waves of A.I. controlled enemies on various multiplayer maps. The waves are randomized, yet increasingly difficult, so that in the later stages of the game, players can expect to face multiple Juggernauts, Dogsstrapped with C4 and enemy air support simultaneously. There is no means of winning in this game mode, as the waves will continue until the player has lost. Like other Special Ops missions, co-op is available for this mode, both online or split-screen.
