^ Your teammate was born and raised in the Philippines? I think they are claiming Japeth to be the first "real" Filipino to do it.

I'm not sure about that..I think he was raised here in the states. btw, what if he was born in the Phils. but he was raised here..is he still considered a "real" filipino?

^ In the true sense of it, you are a Filipino if your folks are both Filipinos, does not matter if you were raised locally or abroad. But what they are saying is that Japeth is the first born and raised in the Philippines to make it.

Anyway, looks like the "true" Pinoy is doing well up there:

Bowling Green, Ky. Both the Western Kentucky mens and womens basketball teams kicked off their 2006-07 seasons with Hilltopper Hysteria Friday evening at E.A. Diddle Arena.
Both the Hilltoppers and Lady Toppers were introduced to the crowd of better than 3,000, with Lady Topper head coach Mary Taylor Cowles being escorted in by motorcycle.

Junior transfer Japeth Aguilar took the title in the slam dunk contest, bettering fellow newcomers Desire Gabou and Jeremy Evans, and junior Mike Walker. Aguilars second dunk of the night was a one-handed slam in which he was put his entire forearm through the rim. He secured the championship in the finals with a baseline two-handed windmill.

The team of Kenzie Rich and Orlando Mendez-Valdez won the three-point shootout in the other individual event of the evening, defeating Tifany Zaragoza and Benson Callier in the finals.

In a 10-minute running clock scrimmge, the Lady Topper Red team defeated the White squad 12-6 behind a seven-point, four-rebound effort from sophomore Dominique Duck. Senior Cammie Campbell accounted for all of the White teams points with a pair of threes.

The evenings festivities concluded with the Hilltoppers taking the court for a 10-minute scrimmage of their own. Courtney Lee's game-high seven-point effort led the Red team to a 25-14 win over the White, with A.J. Slaughter chipping in six and Walker adding five points. Ty Rogers paced the White squad with five points, while Callier chipped in four.

Both clubs will take part in their first official practices of the season on Saturday.
