I wouldn’t really categorize him as a 3 and D guy. Can’t really create his own shot either but I think he can be solid with Ben since he’s athletic and can be a high energy/effort guy.

The only good thing that came out of this is that Colangelo can't take credit for any Sixers success.

    JJ and Bolden.

Fultz, Kormaz, Timothe didn't work out.

Hiring Pringles as an assistant helped in helping brown lay out the blueprint but it was discovered that it was supposed to be a coupe that failed.

Ilyasova and Beli helped, but that was a half year rental

We don't hear a peep from brand, but now it's obvious it was intentional.

I believe Tobias will definitely come back, he’s only 26, been pretty healthy his whole career, hasn’t ever had any problems with any teammates, doesn’t need the ball in his hands, and his skills fit perfectly with Joel and Ben.

I’m more skeptical of Jimmy, I’m not sure where his head is at and he’s about to be 30.

I'd rather have Tobias back and let Jimmy walk if Jimmy isn't willing to be the glue guy (Iggy) for us.

Dario aint a legit PF tbh. Son is on & off. But i wouldnt mind having RoCo back
Or we could go after a more traditional kinda point guard and put Ben at PF

Man...I didn't realize the group was not that high on Butler like this. I think he's done a great job so far playing within the system and has shown to be a good teammate. He will also be much more important come playoff time where we would need someone to take over.

I would rather keep both. How realistic would it be to sign them at around the 120 mil range?

I mean I'm less enthusiastic about paying Jimmy since he cut from the same cloth as Kyrie, you dont know what he has in mind

Him as the glue guy for everything works but not for 35 mil for 4 when hes about to turn 30. Now if the deal was for 2 years (1+1), it works so much better. Gives us a window with Jimmy-Embiid-J Cole-Simmons and we'd be able to add a different piece after Jimmy who'd be on the same timeline as everyone else

    I still love Jimmy

Two game winners, he's the go to wing guy to close out games. I'm all for it man.

But I do understand the legitimate concerns with his age and contract. We shall see this summer. I think he and Tobias both resign if we make a deep playoff run

for a guy who says he doesn't want to play past 35, I can see him taking a 1+1 deal the cashing in after for his last contract. He's actually played really well off bad and is very efficient with his scoring.

But yes, his style of play does not age well. But turning 30 is very different than turning 34.

I have no doubt that he will be the guy where when we just need a bucket, we will give it to him.

We've never seen Tobias in big game situations so we don't really know if he can take his game to the next level. It will be good to see what he's capable of come playoff time

I just read a pretty good analysis on Brand's performance so far as a GM:

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The easiest way to look at things is to see what we've lost and what we've gained since Brand came in - anything that happened before e.g. Fultz trade shouldn't be factored in:

    LOST
    • Dario Saric
    • Robert Covington
    • Jerryd Bayless
    • Landry Shamet
    • Wilson Chander
    • Mike Muscala
    • Markelle Fultz
    • 2020 1st (PHI)
    • 2021 1st (MIA)
    • 2021 2nd (DET)
    • 2023 2nd (DET)
    • 2021 2nd (Pick Swap)
    • Cash Considerations
So what did we lose of actual significant value? Robert Covington, Landry Shamet, our own 1st and the Heat 1st. I love Dario but he's trending down in a big way, Chandler and Muscala were bad, Bayless was a joy to send out, Fultz is wholly unknown and doesn't fit in with the established timeline and we've got more 2nd round picks than we can make in a life time.

    GAINED
    • Jimmy Butler
    • Justin Patton
    • Tobias Harris
    • Boban Marjanovic
    • Mike Scott
    • Malachi Richardson
    • Emir Preldzic
    • James Ennis
    • Jonathon Simmons
    • 2020 1st (OKC)
    • 2019 2nd (CLE)
We added a borderline top 10 player in Jimmy. A young, star stretch 4 that hits 3s like nobody's business in Harris. An extremely capable backup big in Boban. Upgrades at wing in Scott and Ennis. A slight improvement on the bench in J. Simmons and we essentially got our 2020 1st back as well as a high 2nd in next year's draft.

    Put more simply:
    • Robert Covington to Jimmy Butler (big upgrade)
    • Dario Saric to Tobias Harris (huge upgrade)
    • Wilson Chandler to James Ennis (upgrade)
    • Mike Muscala to Mike Scott (upgrade)
    • Amir Johnson to Boban Marjanovic (big upgrade)
    • Markelle Fultz to Jonathon Simmons (upgrade - Fultz ain't playing)
    • 2020 Sixers 1st to 2020 Thunder 1st (push)
    • Two future Pistons 2nds to 2019 Cavs 2nd (push - current value > future value)
    • Jerryd Bayless to fart wind (upgrade)
    • Actual Hard Costs = MIA 2021 1st and Landry Shamet

Even the most staunch Sixers critic would be hard-pressed to paint this as anything other than an excellent first showing from Brand. He's still got work to do in the buyout market and he's got a HUGE offseason coming up in which he's going to have to figure out some serious challenges e.g. do we max Butler and Harris and if so how the hell do we put a roster around them?

Those are good problems to have and a problems for another day. For now, I'm extremely excited and happy with Brand was able to accomplish and a feel optimistic about the future of this team.

I like Jimmy a lot, I think his “outburst” earlier this year with Brown was overblown and that he’s actually gelled pretty well with the squad. Also he’s been a positive influence on Ben from what I can tell.

However, I’m not sure if he’s worth a five year max at 30. His game could age poorly and those last 2 years of the contract could be rough. We just need to see how the rest of the season plays out, hopefully he’ll be happy playing the “backup pg” now that we got some more depth. I still need him to shoot 3s more though, no reason for Joel to average more attempts than him.
