hold a straight edge up to the triangles' hypotenuse on the 5x13
i only used a dollar bill, but the line wasn't straight.

The way I see it, square is 8X8
The rectangle is 5X13
Different dimensions, just because 2 equal triangles fit within 2 different shapes mean nothing.

Yeah, the pieces don't quite fit in the second positions. You can see that in this version - the space in the middle is obviously the area of one square sothat's where it comes from.

the way i see it is when you add the collective areas and then round up you get 65 its kind of like the difference between 64.49 and 64.51 when you round oneto two digits you get 64 while with the other one you get 65 same goes with the missing square.
in the first picture that little difference in area when you change the shapes makes 64=65 you're eyes can't exactly detect those subtle differences

ok, somebody wanna clue me into what exactly you guys are questioning?
Everytime I look at the picture, I see a square that's 8X8, and a rectangle that's 5X13.
2 unequal shapes that can't form the same shape. The triangles on the inside have a combined area of 24 in each shape, but that's irrelevant to theactual area of the shapes.
PLEASE clue me in, I'm lost.
