Sign of the times sadly. To reach that bottomline for nike and its shareholders it's been straight DOWNHILL in the quality front. I'veowned 2000 atIIIs, '01s, '05s, and now '09s. 2000s have some of the best leathers around. when they are worn in, its just buttery smooth on yourfeet. 01s were staying strong with the 2000s. In 2005, the quality wasnt the best but it still had its decent qualities.. Now in 2009, its just ehhh

Every three years Nike is degrading worse and worse.

If you hate the pleather that nike has been using on the recent batch of retros dating back to 2007 on various Nikes, stay away from these

Thanks for the info Wally

Man, the shape(makes them look more like a low top) and hole perforations are really sort of annoying to me.

thanks for the write up Wally. That seals the deal for me, I can settle for some minor changes, but when it comes to the material quality I'm not gonnaspend my money on cheap stuff...pass. More for y'all.

Proper got them in today.

I know they ship so if you're not in SoCal, you might want to hit them up.

Agreed esp w/that last line. If I can score two more pairs for cheap, I'm on it.

Thank you for that breakdown too Wally. Good clear explanation.

These are at Premier Boutique in San Jose, CA

*notice the tongue tag.. 2009s simply say NIKE AIR TRAINER in basic navy. The 2000 pair has it corect with NIKE AIR TRAINER SC, with a portion in gold.

Bottomline:
  • Not a bad job by nike on this one considering it could've been worse.
  • Colorwise, its like a GOLD vs. CURRY color difference or a dark mustard vs. a deep brown color. *info on page 2*
    • This can go back to the original 1989 model and how Nike views its own models

      b7d15e4d62c2c5bfee6d5e2305f0b11d3d888fc.jpg

-1989 Originals in its dark nutty brown color

      181254642f60ec49cc9b05236619cc4e0461d52.jpg

-1989 Original shown in June at a Nike global event. *shoe has lightened over the years due to sun exposure

-The 2000s appear to take on the color of the aged pair. Meanwhile the 2009s take on the color of a brand new DS pair of med balls from 1989.
-Shape is about the same on both models.
-Toebox has its big differences.

In closing, the 2009s go back to its original color roots but leaves out a correct perf. leather pattern on top of the plasticy pleather upper. Meanwhile the 2000s take on the color of an aged original, has better leathers, and correct perf. leather and tongue tagging, leaving this one as NO CONTEST.... But realistically not many if ANYONE can find the 2000s or 2003s and these new 2009s do fill in that void.

Cosmetic Grade: C+

I'll be back after a few wears for the more important grade in Wearability and comfort

Great stuff as always Wally! I've got 2 pairs of the 2000's and we're the same sz 13! Those pics just sold me on snagging a pair locally. Thebrown color looks closer to the og than the LS 2000's imo.
peace

This is where it's truly fun to be into shoes.

DAY 2 brings us to a quick trial walk with both pairs on my feet.. Both are evenly matched as being DS and the same size.

-After a quick 5 minute walk around my house, I felt almost no difference between the pairs.
-At extreme flex points ie. tippy toe shoe bend (which isnt very realistic) I felt some pinky toe issues in both pairs
-Now given, I buy a full size up. I have upwards of 1 to 1 1/2 thumb lengths in the toebox. That roominess isessential.
-Neither pair had any pinky toe issues. And the 2009 pleather is surprisingly not as stiff and unbearable as I had imagined..
-Now of the greatest concern, DURABILITY.. I have a beat beyond belief 2000 med. ball that still gets worn. So I have a good gauge of what these 2009 should orshouldn't be at in that specific amount of time. So it will be interesting to see how this synthetic leather looks after numerous amounts of wear and tear.
-The 2000s had the midsole paint chipping issue so it may happen again.

Overall, $110 is a steep price to pay for a non performance shoe. But throw in the fact that it's truly been 20 years since the last general release ofthese, and it's really a no brainer.. If youre buying airmax, jordans, or basketball retros for nostaglia purposes, why would you not take that sameapproach on the trainers.. In the trainer world, these are like any other jordan original colorway getting retro treatment for the first time.. A trueblue IIIif you will or better yet imagine the Jordan IV white'greys never retroed in 99, and today was that first release date.. HYSTERIA EVERYWHERE... here, itreally should be the same.

You don't buy these now and they may never come again.. Back to the transformer days..

Update later tonight after a half day of wear.

might buy these for nostalgia purposes...although if my memory serves me right i never did like the color of these...o well

I just picked up my medicine balls from German customs - just awesome! I feel like I am a teenager again...

Mine arrived yesterday from PYS and I'm really happy with them. Thanks to everyone who helped with sizing info. I had to go with size 11 (my usualsize) since 11.5 was sold out. So far I detect some pinky toe issues, but overall they fit pretty well.

Copped today. Love em. Basically got em for free. My wife even likes em and she's not into sneakers. She was like "You should get a second pair ofthese..."
