The war on drugs was born in racism. The first ever ban on a mind altering substance, anywhere in the US was in San Francicso in 1875 and it was because of fears that Chinese immigrants were using it to seduce, rape and kidnap white women. The same was said about cocaine and black men and those two great prejudices were indulged at the Federal Level by the Harrison Act of 1914, which severally restricted opium and cocaine based products.

Two decades later Marijuana was more or less outlawed in an effort to harass Mexicans in the American South West.

A half century later, the infamous "hundred to one rule" became law. It look 500 grams of powder cocaine possession to be considered a dealer while it took only 5 grams of crack to be charged and sentenced as a dealer. That has all but insured that blacks will be the majority in our prisons.

In addition to it being bad policy, drug prohibition is rooted in racism and is a violation of human rights.
