Anatomy of A Sneaker

Regardless of your personal preference, Nike, Jordan, Adidas, New Balance, Vans or anything else. The parts that make up a shoe, for the most part remain the same. The following is a simple basic break down of the many parts that create your kicks.

Upper

The Upper is the complete product, the combination of every individual part together. Much like the body of a car, the upper holds the foot in place and allows for stability and breathability

Midsole

As it’s name would suggest, the midsole is the portion of the shoe that sits between the upper and outsole. Think of this as your suspension, easily the most important part.

Outsole

The Outsole is the most durable part of the shoe and it’s the most versatile. Just like a tire, the ousole provides traction durability and the first level of cushioning in the shoe.

Insole

the insole, is just what it sounds like it’s the sole INside your shoe. Insoles come in a variety of styles depending on personal needs and particular sport each shoe is for.

Toe box

The tope box is the front most portion of the shoe, it’s right where your toes would sit once your foot is inside the shoe.

Sidepanels

The sidepanles are the areas to the left and right of the toe, normally where most brands chose to place their logos.

Ankle collar

Area around the ankle that’s padded for fit and comfort.

Tongue

The tongue is your forefoot’s first line of defense, depending on what sport your playing the tongue may be stuffed or thin.

Guys let's keep bumping this or @BIGJ505 could we get this "stickied" for future reference..Thx.

What's a widow peak?
Should have included that I guess..hahah..

Widows Peaks: WPs or Widows Peaks are the small triangular "flaps" of leather left behind from the stamping die when these pieces are punched out of the sheet of material..

They are used as a visual aid to help align the various pieces of material for sewing and are supposed to be removed during or after construction..The bootleg factories generally skip this step because time = $..

Now having said that. MOST bootleg resellers have gotten wise and clip or file the WPs off now before they sell you their fake merchandise..Sometimes you can still see where they once were if you look very close and know where to look..

With all recent releases since about 07' or so, WPs WILL NOT be on Legit merchandise.
Pre 07' WPs WILL be visible on legit merchandise.

For instance legit 06' Fire Red 5s DO HAVE visible WPs. 13' pairs DO NOT.

Pictured below are WPs on the toebox of Fake Royal 1s.
