Ankle brace or tape ankle?

okay, it sucks for you that you walked with an injury for that long, but you kinda asked for it, having it a year. you listen to a doctor right? then why didntyou stop playing to let it heal completely?? obviously you're not as smart as you think you are otherwise you wouldnt be walking with an injury for morethan a year. and just make sure that it heals properly before lacing up your sneakers to play ball.

then explain to me what is a 3rd degree ankle sprain to you, because to you it seems like i dont know, right?? that your ankle is so swollen it looks the sizeof an egg, that you can't move it, stand on it, walk on it. and that every tiny movement hurts, you cant sleep good cause of the pain, it hurts when youtouch it, that it looks blue, like a big bruise?

Dog how old are you?

- I didn't stop playing because I felt the risk was worth it. And no, I didn't listen to our teams trainer, just as 90% of athletes do when doctorstell them not to play.
-Making sure a sprained ankle is healed properly isn't as easy as you're ignorant mind thinks, just because there's no pain, doesn't meanit's healed.
-A third degree ankle sprain is the highest class of ankle sprain, usually involving the compete rupture or tearing of ligaments. It's a diagnosed injuryyou fool, not some @+@% I made up for arguments sake.

Dude I was never trying to argue with you, but you really don't know what you're talking about.

you call me the fool?? you're the one that is still playing after getting a serious injury? and then you come up with this lame excuse that you didntlisten to the team trainers like 90% of all athletes do? means you're not very bright. you say you listen to what the doctor has to say, yet you ignore thetrainers opinion on whether you should rest and let your ankle heal?

if you dont feel pain and you just had a serious injury, you do rehab make sure that you get stronger, but obviously you didnt that's why you've beenwalking with it for over a year.

and if it's a so-called 3rd degree ankle sprain is what you have and you ignore the doctor and trainer, well doesnt that just make you freakin smart? andyou call me a dumb !@%.. hahah, that's funny... at least i'm not having ankle problems like you, because you werent smart enough to listen to thespecialist that you claim knows so much about your ankle. i'm 26 if you wanna know... and learn how to spell, dude... you're ignorant minds... goodone!!!

i'm not arguing i'm just telling you that you call me dumb for not listening to the doctor, yet you ignore him yourself...and that seems to be more ofa problem for you than for me.

I hope you're not 26 and you're just fronting. Honestly you're ability to analyze and understand information give to you is comparable to that ofa ten year old.

For one, I didn't say it started as a serious injury. I SPECIFICALLY stated that it began as a routine ankle sprain. With that said, it's obvious thatyou've never played sports competitively or even watch them recreationally if you think athletes listen the majority of the time a trainer tells them notto play. And not that it matters but I never said anything about myself personally listening to doctors (even though I generally do). I said I would take adoctors opinion over yours.

The hell does this incoherent statement have to do with anything? For the record we're talking about an incident that took place years ago and uh....I diddo ankle strengthening exercises (rehab in case you're confused). And I wasn't walking around in pain for a year, the fact that you think that makesit clear that you didn't comprehend what I said.

Again, I never said I had a third degree sprain (once again testament to your inability to comprehend information).

wow, how this quickly elevated while i got a few matches of COD in.
Although i probably won't be reading it all.

A high ankle sprain takes months to heal at the quickest, and the older you are the longer it takes to heal.

okay you're right. but you have ankle problems and i dont and according to you i never played competitive sports.

Damn, this escalated into something unnecessary. Last time I made a thread like this YoungestGun got was flaming with some other dude as well. Although I doagree with the man that no matter how bad an ankle injury, it should never last a year

I had a second degree ankle sprain for the 3rd time about a 2 months ago, I'm back to 100%. I have done rehab to get my ankle back to where it is so thatsnot the issue. Either way, I never really got my question answered. I know there are many knowledgable people on NT concerning this subject, I'm suretheres a couple trainers/physicians here as well.
I just want to know if taping is a better option than braces. I have sprained my ankle wearing a brace so its not reliable to me and I can't risk anotherinjury. Any suggestions on a better brace, is taping your ankle and wearing a brace the best option for stability. I know there is no option that willcompletely eliminate the risk of injury, I just want to know the best one...

I wear two braces every time I ball.

I didn't sprain my ankle and it happened to last a year. I sprained my ankle pretty bad like I and everyone else who participates in physical activity has done before. It bothered me for a couple of weeks after that it was fine. The thing is, after you sprain your ankle the ankle itself is weak, making you more susceptible to worse sprains. Even if it's not bothering you, the muscles and ligaments themselves are weak/strained. This can set up a cycle of reoccurring sprains. Which is why I made my initial comment to the OP advising him to let the ankle rest a little bit. The incident I'm talking about, I sprained my ankle, didn't let it heal properly, and a month later sprained it worse than before. I "couldn't" stop playing, so as a result I kept spraining it over the course of 10 months.

And yes, I'll take a doctors point of view concerning anything medical over TheYoungestGun's

Even though the fact that a third degree ankle sprain can't possibly heal in two weeks is common knowledge, I wouldn't need a doctor to tell me that.
Oh and everything above is the truth.

when i used to ball i wore an brace, but i only played pick-up in the school gym and intramural ball

I have Active Ankles braces and ASO ankle braces.. People (my friends who are volleyball coaches/trainers) tell me that ASO braces are much better thananything out but I still prefer the bulky Active Ankles (even if it makes me look like a cripple)..
