ran my file the other day and learned that with my BA and MA degrees, I could join the military right now as an 0-1 and almost double my current salary of being a teacher...

anybody ever go this route after college?

:nerd:

Nope, I did the military to pay for college route.
Should you choose to become an officer please do not be a worthless **** like 99% of officers are.

^lol was going to do the officer route before this deployment but ill get it started whenever i get back to the states. To me its a no brainer to commission if u go to college especially if u have a master degree in the military. I know nco with master its just officer route fits me more so to each its on

not one but there are a few officers on here, mostly Navy ... depending on what branch + job you are looking at, its not a walk in the park to get selected.

i went through the application process for Navy OCS but got tired of waiting for an active duty board review for jobs i was interested in (public affairs and intel). those pipelines were extremely backed up. i was not interested in supply, aviator, flight officer or surface warfare. i spent the better part of a year and a half waiting for a Public affairs board only to have it cancelled the week of. theres a lot of prep for a Navy OCS package including letters of rec, ASTB scores, fitness test scores, and passing a background check.

there's some good info in this thread about OCS ... http://niketalk.com/t/298443/the-official-military-thread-vol-1/1830

also if you are looking into the Navy or Corps check out the air warriors forums (mostly aviators and NFOs) but great insight into how one should prep if they are interested in going

also, if you are looking into Army OCS, recruiters are a bit harder to deal with because there are no Officer recruiters (as far as I know). Army recruiters have quotas and meet them by sending people in as enlisted so come correct if you are going to talk to one about OCS. there are a few contract options that will send people to OCS after they complete basic training IF that is how they take you. you can go straight to OCS, but like I said, they will do everything to try to convince you to enlist.

just some things ive learned by talking to different personnel and recruiters from different branches...not gospel by any means and seek always seek official stuff but hopefully you find something useful
