Armored van falls from Skyway

The Philippine Star 01/25/2007

One person was killed while two others were hurt after an armored van fell from the Skyway in Makati City during rush hour yesterday.

The accident took place at the corner of Arnaiz Avenue (formerly Pasay Road) and President Osmea Highway (formerly South Super Highway) around 5:37 p.m.

Initial investigation by the Makatis Department of Public Safety office said the armored van plunged from the Skyway and hit several vehicles below.

The lone fatality came from the armored van (THE-633). He has yet to be identified.

The passengers of a Toyota Revo were taken to the Makati Medical Center for treatment. Injured were Pinky Rosales, 43, and her son Owen, 19. Both sustained head injures.

Four other vehicles, including two Honda Civic sedans, were damaged.

^^^ reckless driving has a lot to do with it. drivers tend to increase on their speed since the road is good. either you lose control or get sideswiped i guess

^ Add to that the fact that most drivers don't follow the:

"left-most lane: overtaking
middle lane: cruising
right-most lane: for heavy and slow moving vehicles"

policy that is in vigor in almost any other left-hand drive country in the world...

And the Skyway people don't even give an @#%$ about this (however, the NLEX does...)

I hear it went off the Skyway just as it was turning the Makati exit. That exit there is a pretty sharp curve, almost like a right turn on a normal intersection. I always crack that joke about the Skyway folks using adverbs/adjectives in their signs (ABSOLUTELY no overtaking), but that turn is so riduculuos there should be more other than the Sharp Curve sign right there.

If it's true then it's that bad combination of reckless driver and poor road design (heavy vehicle at a high speed + ubersharp curve = guess what)
