I agree. If this were a politician he\she would have been asked to resign by now.  Why is this any different. Also, the part in big bold text is even worse.

Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens, two of the world's most prominent atheist intellectuals, are seeking means to try the pope for crimes against humanity, their lawyers confirmed this weekend.
The pair are said to be working with British lawyers to see if the pope can be arrested for his part in the alleged cover-up of widespread sexual abuse in the Catholic Church during a visit to the United Kingdom in September.

The Vatican has suggested that the pope is immune to prosecution as he is a head of state - Dawkins and Hitchens suggest that he is not immune as the Vatican is not represented at the United Nations.

"I'm convinced we can get over the threshold of immunity," their lawyer Mark Stephens told The Guardian. "The Vatican is not recognized as a state in international law. People assume that it has existed for time immemorial but it was a construct of Mussolini, and when the Vatican first applied to become a member of the UN, the US said no. So as a sop they were given the status of permanent observers rather than full members."

Dawkins, author of The God Delusion, has confirmed he is seeking the pope's arrest, although he later denied reports he was planning to perform the arrest personally.

Last month Dawkins wrote a scathing article for the Washington Post in which he called the pope:
A leering old villain in a frock, who spent decades conspiring behind closed doors for the position he now holds; a man who believes he is infallible and acts the part; a man whose preaching of scientific falsehood is responsible for the deaths of countless AIDS victims in Africa; a man whose first instinct when his priests are caught with their pants down is to cover up the scandal and damn the young victims to silence.

Hitchens told the Sunday Times of London: "This man is not above or outside the law. The institutionalized concealment of child rape is a crime under any law and demands not private ceremonies of repentance or church-funded payoffs, but justice and punishment."

Lobemybeats FTW.

Its a damned shame what these people get away with.

the pope should simply just apologize and admit he was wrong
he is the head of religion yet so prideful. irony at its finest

I grew up as a Catholic but now have no ties to the church. For one I have become educated and refuse to believe all the bs that they preach. The church has become corrupt, it is like a safe haven for predators. Something like this needs to happen, they aren't above the law so it's time to burn that %%#+! down. Religion is nothing more than a form of control anyways. They should burn those molesters as the stake like they used to do with "witches" back in the day.

I'm not a fan of homosexualty but I was appalled when one of the Bishops said that the pedophilia present in the Church is the work of homosexuals. The Nazi's used the same rhetoric in their persecution and extermination of homosexuals during the Holocaust.

The Church has stolen trillions in false taxes, murdered and worse all in the name of God.

Similar to airblaster I was brought up on Catholicism but I don't adhere to it at all.

Absolutely.  The amount of lies and downright scientific falsehoods spouted by the Pope and his cronies should be enough to convict him of crimes against humanity. For the record, the Vatican has blamed all of the following on their sex scandals:

  • Atheists
  • The Victims (so seductive those little kids are with their virgin buttholes)
  • Satan
  • Homosexuality
  • Media
  • Pro-Choice people
Who or what hasn't he blamed for their problems?
  • Priests

dunno how I feel yet but seems pretty bad. It sucks with someone in a position of power is in the wrrong though but it still doesn't reflect the greater population. Everyone didn't blame homosexuals or atheists for priest scandals. Anywho I always question atheism. Like I mind my business and other people mind theirs. If you dont believe in any faiths whats the need of a label? No flame but I'd just not believe and go on with my day as oppose to repeating "i don't believe you shouldn't believe and attacking / throwing any religious under the microscope. Anwyho Just wish everyone could be more respectful. Heres to hoping before this thread erupts.
