Asian Culture Discussion Thread

From Good:
-Black support for Filipinos
To WTF:
-Black Panther support for Mao CCP and against North Vietnam War.

These Ladies can come up with better examples for solidarity. Fail.

🤦‍♂️🤨

This headline is reckless, irresponsible and intentionally misses the main point of the policy which is protecting the presumption of innocence until proven guilty, a pillar of American justice.

Posting mugshots of apprehended suspects serves what purpose?

I understand the awareness that an account like "Asian Dawn" is trying to bring. Yes, more eye balls need to be on the problems the Asian community faces as it relates to violence

However if you look at that account they almost always cross the line between bringing awareness and being anti-black. You can promote awareness and pro-Asian issues without being anti-black. The thing is, Asian Dawn and a lot of individuals explicitly do not want to do that.

Just speaking on my own experiences as a Latino who’s lived in Flushing most of his life. A lot of the Anti-Asian sentiments that I’ve personally witnessed has been White on Asian bigotry. Mostly in the form of using racist Asian slurs and screaming “Go back to your country”. I’ve seen incidents like that at least three times in Flushing. I have witnessed one fight between an Asian dude versus a Black dude and a Latino dude. I was on my way to an Action Bronson concert in Flushing. Asian dude washed both the Black dude and the Latino dude. And strangely enough I once saw a Latina woman with a strong Spanish accent tell an Asian man (who spoke English fluently) to go back to his country. I laughed at her audacity but also shook my head at her. Again, just things that I’ve personally witnessed.

NY is allowing concerts during a pandemic? :smh:

Bronson show was in 2012. But I haven’t been to a proper concert since 2015. Maybe I should have been clearer, these incidents happened before Covid. I was just speaking in general of my experience in Flushing and seeing those Anti-Asian incidents over time before Covid.

Sidenote, I'm planning a photo walk of SF Chinatown to how much the pandemic has changed everything within that area of San Francisco. I've been taking walks through there during my lunch break and it's so dead. Also read about how there is only one Chinese banquet style restaurant left in Chinatown. Crazy stuff.

bruh post the link to the photos.. would love to see them.

Account masthead says “The Alternative Voice for Asians Around the World. Pro-Asian for All Our Strengths & Weaknesses”.

News actually happened. All previous and below.

I am aware of what the masthead says 😂

Did you ever see what Breitbart’s masthead used to say?

Just because you state your purpose, bigotry, hate, and racism in general aren’t automatically excused.

There is nothing wrong with being pro-asian.

What I said remains and holds true- you can be Pro-Asian and at the same time not be Anti- Black but some people don’t want to.

Apparently others don’t see the problem with crossing into Anti-Blackness while being pro asian 💡

I'm not mad at all for the BPP being against the US Wars in Vietnam. The US military was drafting Black men to fight a war on behalf of a country that was actively racist and discriminating against the Black community.

"My conscience won’t let me go shoot my brother or some poor hungry people in the mud for big powerful America. And shoot them for what, they never called me ******" -Muhammad Ali on the US Wars in Vietnam

As for their support for Mao and the CCP, I could be wrong but I'm confident that some of the ideology of the Panthers derived from the CCP, particularly the notion of "serve the people." I mean, in those years, Mao x CCP were connected with a handful of Black leaders. so it made sense for the Panthers to rock with him. I support what the Panthers stood for in the US and globally, however, I don't know enough about the CCP in the 50s-70s to have a position on them.

The time lag to even acknowledge. WTF.

unfortunately the current attorney general of california never prosecutes police officers in cases of excessive force, even if it results in a victim's death. this **** will inevitably happen again, unfortunately :smh:

The comments section of his Instagram posts do go overboard. I never read the cesspool of outrageous trolls. Just read the News, cross check links to confirm events happened.
The only issue Personally see in each are Victims and Perpetrators. And I’m siding with Victims. There’s enough variety of harm to go around being posted.

Are you suggesting that I am sympathizing with alleged perpetrators???

Because if you are you need to quote where I said or suggested this. And before you do that you need to make sure to understand that there is a difference between posting a mugshot for purposes of finding a suspect who is on the loose and a danger to the public and someone that has been apprehended and awaiting trial.

What’s not ok is doing what Asian Dawn did and publish an inaccurate, misleading and anti-black headline only to later acknowledge what the policy actually sought to accomplish.

It’s a bit like what the Cam’ron stan/Eddie Huang imposter account tried to do here earlier by posting a mugshot without context.

I don’t read the comments section on any platform, by the way.

A victim is a victim.

What I was saying is that there is a way to be Pro-Asian without being Anti-Black.

Do you agree or disagree with that statement?

Communism doesn’t get a pass ever. My extended Family, my one Laotian Aunt’s extended family and maybe your family all escaped the horrors of extreme Totalitarian Socialism. Fact that we grew up here in an environment where their leaders become pop culture icons is absurd.

But you have fair point. Hindsight to past conflicts, war and social, is 20/20. Not an easy answer. Understand what you’re saying. Your private message function is off, but can always reach me here and off board.

No, my reply was just saying how and why I read the News.
Nothing more, Nothing less.
And yes your statement here “What I was saying is that there is a way to be Pro-Asian without being Anti-Black.”
There’s no issue here

hes a butt licker from the CCP, i used to love his movies in the 80s and 90s when i was a kid but now i cant stand his face anymore, dude is a 1st class traitor :emoji_100:

Really disheartened young dude missed entire point of the movie he starred in. Important message lost because he’s so focused on ignorant reactions by Idiots. Story is good and a teachable learning experience. Trying to tie to current events an over reach.

Been known to Asian audiences for quite some time that he’s not what his on screen persona seems. Western audience just realizing the difference. Really not a good decent person in private real life either.

Woman walked into a Boba store, gets mad about order mixup, and storms off mad.

Went home and wrote some 1920s horror story from her imagination about him being racist, throwing a drink at her imaginary baby, and her balling in tears and saying "it doesn't matter what color I am."

Then his store got a bunch of bad reviews.

Drop some positive reviews for him if you can. Cafe Tapioca in Hercules, CA.
