Basketball in NYC

Can someone put me on to the basketball in New York. I'm visiting in mid August and I've never been. What's it like trying to get on the court at Rucker, Dyckman, and the Cage? Are people there all day? I'm staying in Brooklyn and it seems that the most notable courts are not close. Am I mistaken?
