Best Sanding paper for AF1?

Hello everyone! New to here, but I was sanding down some AF1 lows to make them suede, using 100 grit paper.. the sanding paper did cause some gray discoloration and the leather was still firm. Any suggestions as to what grit of sanding paper works best?

To make them suede? Never heard of that , Ihas anyone done this?
