Brand Jordan Edition: The Last dance Documentary.

I was confused by his post also.. Rodman is only overrated from an entertainment media perspective, definitely not as a player. He got way too much camera love and some just don't like him for it.

Very random question, but does anyone remember or have a pic of Pippen wearing the Foamposite Pro Pearl I believe for a couple of games around this time? Unless I'm just imagining things I remember seeing an in game pic many years ago but haven't since. Also the rumored neon red Foamposite 1 PE for Pippen, does a pic even exist?

I’m saying even given how many boards he grabbed in his tenure ... he was focused and a good boy in 1996.

1997, and 1998 whatever he brought rebounding wise to the table was off set by his detachment from reality and maverick rogue nature that distracted from the team. Or got himself suspended. Also known as a headache.

Not to mention his defense was starting to get worse in 97 and 98. I didn’t say he wasn’t good,

I said he was a great defensive specialist and role player. But his tenure as a Bull is kind of overrated. Mainly by certain fan base faction.

Not day a perennial All-Star caliber players with franchise corner stone potential in their own individual right. IE by comparison to say 3rd options like Chris Bosh, Kevin Love or Klay Thompson

He did get suspended for 7 or so games during that 96 season. Head butting a ref.

Yes, rodman was a defensive and rebounding specalist. But thats half the game. And by 98 jordan was mostly an offensive specialist. Everybody filled a role on that team. And dont knock ben wallace. He was the anchor to that championship team.

Mike played amazing defense in 1998. 1st team broski.

Wtf are you talking about?!

There was games where Grant Hill was torching Scottie until Mike switched into him and locked him up.

Mike carried the perimeter defense for the Bulls until Scottie got back.

Rodman didn’t even make a defensive team.

I didn’t knock Ben Wallace. He was one of them, yes, along with Billups and Rip. Slightly lesser extent Prince then Sheed. He too was an amazing but defensive specialist and ROLE player.

Some numb skull compared Bulls Rodman to Bill ... 11 rings ... player / coach ... Finals MVP award named after Russell. A Top Ten arguable GOAT basketball player. Even if it was in the developmental stages of the game.

And that’s what I’m talking about in terms of overrated.

Late 90’s Bulls wasn’t a three all star super team. It was the GOAT MJ, then sidekick Beta Scottie, and a bunch of quality specialists and role players.

Hell I could make the argument Horace Grant was better in the first three peat than Rodman in the second. Brought more to the table, less headache.

Pistons Rodman > Bulls Rodman > Spurs Rodman > Lakers Rodman > Mavericks Rodman

Both three peat teams were very much the same. In the first 3, Mike was unstoppable. Pip just reached peak, and Horace played the same role as Dennis but with a little more scoring. Both eras had big men, spot up shooters, and players that did the dirty work.
The second version had an older Mike that got a lot of help from Harp and Pip on defense. Toni picked up the scoring that Dennis lacked. Pip was amazing all round. Even if he didnt score. If you really break down both of those teams its crazy how much they were alike.
The year they lost to Orlando it exposed what they were missing. Rebounding. They obviously wasnt getting Horace back. So with Toni and his ability to score with the addition of Dennis, it proved to be a perfect fit.

I really think guys like Harp, Toni, and yes even Longley get a little over looked for the roles they played also. Toni hit some great shots down the stretch of certain games during their playoff runs. Longley was Phils whipping boy but still delivered in key moments. Harp with his bad knees and all still played decent roll on defense against the smaller quicker guards.

Does anybody else have a collection of Mikes old Wheaties boxes and magazines with him on the cover? This is the only card I’ve got... but it’s sufficient :smokin:smokin

I’ve heard the story that the Foamposite was originally designed for Pip but I don’t recall seeing him wear them...I’d be super interested in some input from somebody who might have info in this though...

scollard23 scollard23 MJO23DAN MJO23DAN any idea?

On a kind of related note...WTF is the reason why Nike can’t bring back the Pippen 2’s? The fact that the playoff colorway never got a retro is criminal...

Yeah, the Foamposite was originally designed for PIP. Then penny somehow got it...

I vividly remember the pearl white Foamposite Pros in a Slam magazine labeled as PIP's shoe, but he never did wear it. It's my understanding that it was due to the foot injury. He definitely never wore it in a game.

And yeah, the PIP 2s in the playoff black NEED to be retroed. Now would be the PERFECT time with the Last Dance hype. Insane that they'd rather release an atrocious purple pair yet have never retroed the playoff colorway.

I also wish they'd retro the black PIP 1s with Zoom Air like he wore them, but I know that's even less likely. If they can retro Foamposites with "Sharpie" marks though...

See dude who compared Rodman to Bill was NEVER to be taken seriously. Now I can understand why you would think people over rate him.. the majority doesn't tho.
Your last two sentences completely on point, except Pippen wasn't a beta, maybe next to Mike. But opposing teams definitely didn't see him as such. Double alpha "Tyrese voice" 😂.

Rewatching episode 3 & 4. Noticed 14min into episode 3 Collins was wrapping up a locker room speech when Jordan walks by with his white cement 3's in hand :nerd:

Hey I already posted that last week after the premiere, how dare you.

Also, this ongoing Rodman argument ... personally, my only dispute was him being called a role player for his overall career. Depends on your definitions, I guess. Me, I don't see many (any?) "role players" in the Hall. Plus, the term is being used too broadly. Steve Kerr was a role player. Craig Hodges was a role player. Will Perdue was a role player. John Salley was a role player. Kurt Rambis was a role player. Bill Walton on the Celtics was role player. Saying Rodman was the same category as those guys is nonsense. I'm from Detroit. I saw Rodman's entire career with the Pistons before he got to the Spurs and Bulls. And I saw Ben Wallace's career. Ben Wallace was no Dennis Rodman, sorry.

stop all this non sense calling rodman’s tenure with the bulls as overrated  jordan himself knew what rodman brought to the table. never seen him talk so highly of another player(other than pippen and olajuwon) .

rodman was a real threat to win FMVP over jordan in 96, i couldn’t understand it then since as a kid, i never see all the intangibles that rodman brought but i still vividly remember how jordan struggled.

this is a nice breakdown of the series. interesting to see how certain players could affect the outcome of a game without scoring much.

rainking rainking Rodman was never top 5 on any team he played for in pts, and averaged under 2 assist per game. That's why I easily call him a role player. I'll take Rodman over all of those guys you mentioned except for Walton tho.
