Those companies are there for a reason. They want cheap labor and china has it in large quantities. If they were to pull out they would only behurting themselves.

Some NT users are so lost. At the end of the day the US dollar is the world reserve currency because the US has the most stable government. Eventhough we basically printed trillions to fight this down turn, after Lehman collapsed the dollar GAINED because investors and countries the WORLD over startedbuying the dollar and selling THEIR currencies because they know AMERICA has the most stable government in the world and wanted they money with the USgovernment and in the dollar because they had faith the US government would make it through this recession before any other government or currency. Do youhonestly think the world will be ok with a currency involving Russia or China which have very opaque governments? Be serious and educated before y'all makethese crazy statements.

the USD losing reserve currency status would spark hyperinflation in america and insane depression in China. it's mutually assured destruction, it'seconomic and political suicide for china, and it definitely would be more than enough to get america to nuke china.

china is talking BS in an attempt to make america be a little more fiscally conservative or force the international community to pressure america into doingso. because america's ridiculous spending + printing will hurt china very much.

china is faced with a lesser of two evils situation. letting america do what it do = the lesser of the two evils.

you're the one who needs to be educated.

USD is not reserve currency because people actually still believe in it. It's because the US Treasury is essentially a $13 trillion Ponzi scheme that therest of the world bought into and now they can't leave without political and economic ramifications. There is no actual fundamental economic strengthbacking the USD. People believed in the USD after WW2 at Bretton Woods, which made USD the reserve currency. They don't believe in it now.

The USD gained post-Lehman because of deleveraging. When you are highly levered and the assets collateralizing your liabilities starts losing value (stockmarket crashes and money market fund breaks the buck), you have to sell assets and raise cash to minimize your leverage and exposure to declining assets. Thismeans huge demand for cash. This is why post-Lehman the USD surged in value. Also, the Fed's ESF transactions back in July catalyzed the commodity bubblecrash and of course since every commodity is priced in USD internationally (reserve currency status), as commodities lost value, the USD gained value.

China isn't looking to replace USD with the Yuan as reserve currency, it wants an IMF SDR, which is a basket of currencies.

Get your facts straight.

the USD will face big devaluation in the next few years as we get a nominal inflation-financed recovery to equities and the economy.

but the USD isn't going to face nearly the pain that the Euro, Pound, etc will.

So after all the injections when wallstreet calm down, why did the US dollar fall in value? Using your theory it would be because people leveragedback up, which is insane considering almost every type of fund was experiencing redemptions and still is. So you mean to tell me that whole gain of the dollarafter lehman didn't involve any significant flow of foreign government money?

I agree with you there is not really a fundamental reason the US dollar is the reserve currency. However, everyone knows the US government is themost stable government which means ALOT. I just dont know how can people actually say the US dollar will collapse when every country, investor, and trader inthe world runs to it when the %#! hits the fan.

BTW I am not denying deleveraging played a part, we all know that. But governments buying the dollar played a huge part also.

I mean, we all know the US manipulates its currency somewhat. But China does even more so. No one is going to use a currency as a standard that manipulatedbased on what its government wants the world the view the country as. I mean the US is guilty of it too. But the level that its at in China is 10x worst. Sothey are just talking out their !!@.
