Ok, this may be a little long but I'm looking for a little advice on college. I'm 19 years old, live in a suburban town with the same people I'veknown my whole life. I got a good set of friends and generally have a good life. I just finished my 2nd year of community college where I played baseball andhad a great time. But it's time to move on from the game and start life. I have 45 credits and am going to get my AA after this fall semester at CC.

Here's where I need some advice. After receiving my AA, I was going to transfer to a college about 15 minutes away from my house. I know a lot of peoplethat go there, one of them is my best friend. I would have stayed at home for this spring semester and then probably get an apartment with a couple friends.Don't get me wrong, sounds fun. But there's this part of me that really just wants to dip out on this town and go to a school preferably in Florida andmeet new people and have new experiences. I'm kinda torn over deciding what I should do.

So what I'm basically asking is if any of you NTers out there have been in this position and what choices you made. If you regretted it or had the time ofyour lives. Thanks in advance

im gonna do my remaining 20 credits at my local cc, then im bout to dip off to so-cal to UC (about 3 hours away), i wanna switch it up

Go where you want. Don't let ANYONE influence where you go. That was my mistake. But it's cool.

sunny559 as respect for me, you need to gimme that megaman sig and avy...

is money a factor? big difference between paying in-state, and paying out-of-state and having debts after you finish

go. it's a big world out there and life is short.

i moved from Guam (an island in the Micronesia) where I lived all my life to San Diego on the summer before my senior year of high school... it was my bestdecision yet and even though it was hard at first, it gets better. now i go to UCR and i would never have had this opportunity if i stayed in Guam.

yeah so basically i say you should go.
your friends'll be there when you get back.

I agree. I would definitely go if I were you. I had a choice to stay in NYC and commute to school with a lot of my high school friends, but I chose to go awayfor college, and it was one of the best decisions of my life. The experiences that you will gain will be unparalleled to any experience you would have bystaying home. You start to meet new people, get exposed to more things, and it's just great for your individual growth. If I were you, I would definitelygo out of your town and experience the real world, and not just the world you were accustomed to for all these years.

Thanks for the advice. I don't think money is a a problem as my parents are willing to help me out a bit.

The school I think I want to attend is Barry University. Any alumni/students that can shed some light on the school? Thanks

It really is a tough decision to make...on the one hand, you have a good support system where you are now, and you won't ever really be out of your comfortzone.

on the other hand, moving away could will open you up to a completely different experience. it may be adifficult transition, but challenges are what make this life great and worth it.

i say make the move my man. i am in a fairly similar situation, wanting to move away, but unlike you, money is kind of an issue.

that's another thing, as long as you CAN without money being an issue, i say do it! best of luck bud.

GO! Trust me you will have a great time. Yea school is important but you can just go to school where you currently are. Go to meet new people and experiencesgo to school in Florida I guarentee you will have the time of your life.

if money isn't an issue, be selfish for once...this is college. the first major step of your life.
i regret staying at my local cc, when i got accepted at uf, ucf, miami, famu.

home is always gonna be there and so are your friends (some of them) i say go away...you can always come home if you don't like it...

Barry is ok, nothing groundbreaking. I know a bunch of people that went there but I still don't know much about it. However, I don't think it has muchof a campus life. It's not going to be like your typical college with a football team and kids that hang out on campus, it's more like go to class thengo home or go to work.

The financial situation in Florida sucks, there's no better word for it. You should read news articles about whatever school you're going to beattending because a lot of schools are cutting programs, and just making tremendous cutbacks. FIU cut like a dozen academic programs and the athleticdepartment had to cut the cheerleading/band programs. Imagine college football without a band and cheerleaders.

And yeah, get the hell outta dodge. College is the best way to experience life away from home for the first time while not fully putting your butt out there. It's like swimming with a life vest, but at least you're finally in the water.

thanks for the advice. seems like i got some thinking to do

Anyone else got any info on Barry U?

gonna bump this in case anyone cares. i have decided to apply to UCF and if I get in, I'm gone

go out and explore the world. meet new people but don't forget the old.

it may be hard leaving your old friends but i think it would benefit you to start on your own and be independent, especially at the age of 19

Best university in Florida to get a real "college experience" imo
