Computer Savy NT'ers Enter Vol. Linux

So I've been thinking of dual booting Linux with my Vista. Last time I checked Ubuntu was the latest version so I guess I will get that but I also heardthat Mandriva is rather user friendly. Any suggestions on what to get? Also what are the system requirements for Vista, would they be the same as XP?

Also I found out about Wubi, it looks rather ideal compared to resizing partitions.

If your not too familiar with Linux..i'd stay away from it..and well Vista..nuff said with that garbage..

Why you would want to dual boot these two OSs is beyond me..

if your willing to learn linux is pretty robust... i use ubuntu to run my music and movie server in my house... the GUI versions of linux seem to bloated tome, i'd rather stick to command line interfaces if I'm just using linux

but for the average pc user... then stick to just the usuals (such as windows or mac)

Why not? I would put it on my desktop and make it 100% Linux but I'm gonna be away at school and it's safer to keep Vista, it has all mystuff on it and I don't have an external to transfer everything.

But really, dual booting it is the way to go since I never used Linus before, if I don't like I can delete it.

As you said before you're not too familiar with it but why would you stay away from it?

As for Vista

, I understand where people come from, yes it's not asstable as XP......but I've had my laptop for about 2 years and no problems yet, a few minor things that can easily be overlooked.

Unless you really plan on doin work and usin Linux why even do it?

.....Havin one of the "Live" boot CDs is always a good look though just in case you have problems one day.... you wanna play around with OSs try outWindows 7 and let me know how it works out for you

If you want to learn a new operating system, try out Windows 7...if your an average PC user..you WILL get overwhelmed by Linux

I don't have a problem with Vista..but most computer that run it have horrible specs..making it that much more difficult to deal with

I've noticed that a lot. People who bad mouth it haveonly 1gb of RAM, I'm running on 6gb right now with zero problems and my computer cost under $1000 so Apple can kiss my ____ with there Mac crap.

Vista is garbage if you dont uninstall all that preinstal crap that comes with computers and you run it on low specs. Ubuntu is great and I would use it moreif I could find a working program for CBR files. It would be my laptops MAIN OS if it would work with the audio drivers

I already have Vista and Windows 7 I haven't even consider cause I know I would have to pay for it. I also plan on getting an gb of RAM sometime soon. Andif I do get W7, I rather just make it my main OS, especially since I'm familiar with Windows and I know it's better than Vista.

But using Wubi, installation wise, it should be rather easy from what I saw so far. I do plan on working and using it, I did request a cd which takes up to 4-6weeks to deliver.

milestailsprowe- How did you install Ubuntu? And what are some good programs for it? Also what are the requirement specs for Vista?
