Dear USA, why do you tax us so much?

Alright, well let me start off by saying I'm definitely not an expert about the economy and how and why everything works, but I started wondering:

Why in the hell do we get basically robbed by the American government and do nothing about it?

I mean just looking at two taxes, you can see how ridiculous it is:
-We get charged on our OWN DAMN INCOME for starters. The government didn't do half the work.
-We get sales tax. Your sales tax percentage might not seem like a lot. but for example, here in MD it's 6%. That's 6 cents off every dollar that EVERYSINGLE PERSON IN THE STATE SPENDS. X 50 STATES X 7 DAYS A WEEK X 4 WEEKS A MONTH X 12 MONTHS A YEAR, etc. I ODed there, i know. but its ridiculous in myopinion.

and sure, a bit of our tax dollars benefit us (bridges, roads, etc) but where does the remainder of the millions and millions of dollars go?

I know i'm not the only one who feels this way. The government's just a bunch of thieves IMO.

DISCLAIMER: i'm not an expert about any of this. This is just a semi-informed opinion.

It's not a question on why we get taxed so much, it's a question on why are our taxes being wasted. I don't care about getting taxed, in fact if Iagreed with where the money was going I'd be willing to give up a larger portion of my income.

You are lucky that you are not living in Europe, now those countries tax a lot. For example in London you get taxed just for DRIVING through certain hightraffic areas.

Do you understand why this is done though? Last I checked NYC was considering doing the same thing. Wouldn't be surprised if other cities follow suit.

We owe the federal reserve ; basically the american citizens were held as collateral to ensure the cash print outs

Yall are lucky.. Tax is going up 1% thanks to the Governator's plan. It's about to be 9.25% where I live

as others have said, I'm not so much against being taxed. just against my tax dollars being wasted (cough cough IRAQ, cough, drug war, cough, pork barrel, cough)

Do you enjoy walking on those nicely paved sidewalks and driving on decent roads? Being able to drive virtually anywhere in the USA on a smooth freeway? Howabout having streetlights on all the streets so you don't get mugged? This country's infrastructure would be f'd up if we didn't pay any taxes.Visit another country and you''ll appreciate the little things we have that we take for granted.

PS I do hate it when they mis-use our tax dollars though.

I dunno but I like it when I call 911 and someone answers. You could be worse off. Think about it.

I knew this would be in the first couple of replies.

Not true, the US pays at least as much tax as most European countries - sure there are the odd ones like the Scandinavian countries where tax is near 50% butthat is unusual and the people there have a very good quality of life.

(and that's not even going into the healthcare argument - people in Europe pay around the same taxes - usually slightly less - and they get theirhealthcare and education paid for included in that amount).

I can't actually include every good thing our taxes do. but it's clear that there's a LOT of stuff our taxesdo that they shouldnt/ don't that they should.

We have lower taxes but also see less for the taxes we do pay. I personally rather have the government take 50% of my paycheck (not like to doesn't anywayif you are single and making over 60k) and have free college and healthcare. But that's just me. The socialistic approach many European countries have isnot communism like people tend to think lol.

We need UNIVERSAL healthcare in USA and Free Education. College made it hard to be successful without an Bachlor's or a Masters degree, unless you a drugdealer, famous star or athlete or inherited a large amount of money thru mommy and daddy or another relative life is going to be extremely rough for you whenit comes to monetary issues. So Yes I think free healthcare and free college education is the right way to go. I mean the govt likes to waste money on the"war on drugs" and Iraq. Man give it up don't build stuff or fix anything they'll just blow it all up again anyways. Fix our country firstthen once America is fixed and running properly and smoothly go ahead and branch out and help other countries but DAMN fix your own country first!

If our tax dollars went to free education and free health care than it would be completely worth it, however we continue to keep military bases open around theworld that serve no purpose, and we invade countries for illogical reasons.
