It's all opinion but I say he certainly does

His sales and longevity alone show the type of impact he has had on our culture and he's transcended two generations thus far

Discuss*

*waits for certain NTers to hate because since they discovered him in 1994, he's become too popular

Definitley not the GOAT but he should be in the top 10 of all time for sure. Top 5 would be all opinionated.

I don't think so. He was up there until I heard Encore. Haven't liked an Em album since the Eminem Show.

Top 3 no doubt, anyone in doubt should re-listen to the albums

Eminem is top 5 of all time

even today he would murk your favorite artist in a song, freestyle, rap battle etc. but his last few albums were pretty bad

Meh...

I wouldn't say top 5... not even top 10 honestly.

The type of crap he raps about is just nonsense, but he is a master at the craft of rapping.

I would never deny dudes skill at the art of rapping/mcing, but he subject matter is just... I don't know.

His best work was from the 8 mile soundtrack.

To dudes saying he would smash your favorite rapper in a battle... although that may be true.

Think about this...

1) If you put Jay-Z in a battle against Em... Jay would lose without a doubt, but does that make Em better than Jay-Z

Okay now ask yourself this if you put Jay-Z in rap battle with most of the top notch battle rappers he would lose... does that mean that Mook, Ars, Lux, Soul Kahn, Diz, Con, etc.... does that mean that those battle rappers are better than Jay-Z

8o

All in all, it's a matter of preference. Tell me how many track's he been featured on where he has murked the dude he's been on the track with. BIG and Jay to name a few. Again I just think some need to relisten to Dead Wrong and Renegades. I can attest that his recently dropped albums were lacking but he wont be able to recreate another Way I Am

If GOAT means Top 5 then no. If GOAT means Top 10 then a case can be made.

Without a doubt top 5. Jay, Nas and the rest of the living legends slurp him for a reason. His content gets out of hand on some songs but SSLP and MMLP are some of the greatest albums of all time. Relapse was also something special. Wasn't a fan of Recovery. For every song with poor content of stupid immature jokes, he has a serious song where he pours his heart out and rips it apart. :x

I just dont feel he's top 3, def a top 10 rapper but I can name more rappers who were relevant longer than MarshalI
I think we need to agree to disagree, but I am curious of who you think is more relevant?

If his body of work solely consisted out of Infinite (still his second best album), SSLP and MMLP then YES... Now, not so much. he's not funny at all anymore and i can't handle his ranting style of rapping

His total lack of evolution as an artist keeps him in a lower tier. His attempt at something new and different (Recovery) basically involved his same schtick except on radio beats w/ pop hooks - conforming instead of evolving. I used to be obsessed, saw him live many times first time in 1999, but he has failed to maintain his all-time status within hip hop by sticking to his script.

This

all of these list are all opinion at the end of the day because no one here has heard each and every album so it would be impossible to make a real judgement. Everyone is different the have diff styles and attract to diff markets.

I've never been a fan of ems work i just cant relate to his subject matter and he is all over the place when he raps. Some people like it and relate but im not about that life.

Only thing Em is good at is multisyllabic rhymes but his punchlines and metaphors are elementary school level (e.g. When I come back. Like nut on your spine.

) and his beat selection is poor. His music just sucks period. Not even top 20.

I don't understand how he's supposed to evolve. I haven't seen Nas, Jay or any other legendary rapper evolve. Nas makes a little more mature music but he still has the same style of songs. Jay has only gotten worse with his last five releases. Kanye, lyrically hasn't evolved at all but you could say musically but he also doesn't make his own beats.

I absolutely HATED Recovery but it's a business. This is his job to make money and sell. Jay Z been putting out average music for years. I'm not mad at all, it's what's got him paid and put him over the top the last few years. NaS is making more mature music, he's selling less and less.

Lol at pointing out one line. And Em is more than just a basic punchline rapper, so why are you judging him ]on that anyways?

Em is not top 20? I am going to conclude that you are ~16-18 years old or younger.

No. If we're basing this strictly off sales then yes he's one of the GOAT selling rappers but he's put out too much trash since his last good output. The stuff he puts out these days is embarrassing.
