DUCK DYNASTY on A&E

My Brother in law is a Director on Duck Dynasty. (Ryan Powers) He says that all the guys are super smart. He'll tell me stories about while Si is being interviewed he has to cut because he will say something that is a little too out there and probably shouldn't be aired. Last season my Nephew and Niece were on the show. They were on the episode where the dad takes the old ice cream truck out and tries to sell boudin. In the show they get grossed out by it and walk away from the truck (while the Dad calls them "yuppy nerds") but in reality they ate it and loved it.

I've watched the show a few times, it's alright.

Did they all decide to grow out their hair and beards to match?

Seen a few episodes. Entertaining

Duck Dynasty' Star Phil Robertson Claims Black People Were 'Happy' Pre-Civil Rights

Cavan SieczkowskiThe Huffington PostDec 19, 2013

"Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson made headlines this week for his anti-gay sentiments in a GQ interview. Now another statement from the interview -- this time about the black community during the pre-civil rights era -- is stirring more controversy.

GQ's Drew Magary sat down with the "Duck Dynasty" patriarch for a candid interview about his road to fame. The 67-year-old journeyed from substance abuse to devotion to God to small-screen celebrity, all in the backwoods of Louisiana. According to Robertson, growing up in those Louisiana backwoods in the pre-civil rights era was not bad for black people.

“I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person," Robertson is quoted in GQ. "Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field.... They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”

Before the civil rights movement of the 1950s, Jim Crow laws enforced a system of subjugating African-Americans in the South by upholding racial barriers for years after the Emancipation Proclamation. The cultural climate in the Southern states was one of "disenfranchisement, segregation and various forms of oppression, including race-inspired violence," History.com notes.

The Human Rights Campaign and the NAACP wrote a joint letter to the president of A&E, expressing deep concern over Robertson's remarks:

We want to be clear why Phil Robertson’s remarks are not just dangerous but also inaccurate. Mr. Robertson claims that, from what he saw, African Americans were happier under Jim Crow. What he didn’t see were lynching and beatings of black men and women for attempting to vote or simply walking down the street. And his offensive claims about gay people fly in the face of science. In fact, it’s important to note that every single leading medical organization in the country has said that there is absolutely nothing wrong with being [lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender] -- it’s not a choice, and to suggest otherwise is dangerous.

Robertson called homosexuality a sin and juxtaposed it with bestiality. After his homophobia made news, A&E released a statement announcing Robertson's indefinite suspension from "Duck Dynasty." The network emphasized that his beliefs are in contrast to those of the network.

Funny how the homosexuality statements are getting more backlash than the blacks statement. Neither comments were that bad. He's expressing how he feels.

How a man get asked a question, and get punished for his answer??
I get it, they want us all believing the same thing.... eff outta here

Probably because gay rights are a civil rights issue now just like segregation was in the 60's. Paula Dean's comments had similar results tho. Not surprised by the views expressed by either Paula Dean or this DD dude considering they are both white, 60+, and from the south, but how can one be so naive to comprehend that as a TV personality, their views on controversial topics can be used against them. They gotta be able to realize that they're about to step into a tarp and choose to not comment.

They're all idiots the two don't even equate...and I'm not going to even argue about that. Where was his publicist? Or image specialist before this got published? The man is a baptist pastor...what did they expect? What question was even asked as to how this came up? I enjoy the show and will continue to watch it.

The old man had it coming.  I'm sure he'll be fine from this money wise, but he'll most likely be off the show for quite some time or indefinitely.  Let that be a lesson to anyone else that steps out of line with this type of nonsense.

Man I've been watching the show since season 1. If they kick him off for voicing his opinion that's OD man. Not that it matters but I'm a black male. We as a society can't be pro freedom of speech on one end , but then get mad when someone actually exerciseses it.

Bet has a show called black girls rock....are white women upset? But I guarantee if MTV put out a White girls rock show social media, al sharpton etc would raise hell. We pick and choose what to have strong feelings about

He voiced an offensive opinion by comparing them to terrorists, saying they're going to hell, and pretty much calling them stupid. A&E did right thing. Not only that, but he's under the impression African Americans did not suffer from the Jim Crow Laws. :smh:

There's no freedom of speech issue either. The government did not reprimand him for it. It would only be an issue if they did. A&E is not owned by the government either, they are a public TV channel. So that's that.

been a duck dynasty fan and support phil robertson, but if your in the social spotlight, in any way, you have to be careful with what you say.

Under Armour has strong ties with Duck commander and are standing by them, though they did the pc move by saying " we do not share the views/opinions" blah blah blah.

duck dynasty has been the only reality show ive followed the past few months, and yes Si is that dude "hey"

A&E suspended Phil from the show, the fam has already said they wont continue without Phil. A&E will lose if they cancel the show, duck commander will continue to make money based of their products. i think this will blow over and be forgotten. Give Si more air-time.
