If it wasn't for PTI, OTL and of course games, I wouldn't visit the channel.
Haven't been to the website since Grantland launched.
So I ask, how do others feel about ESPN?

Ath and pti is really the only 2 things I watch outside of games so I wouldn't know

I fully agree with all statements in this thread so far. PTI, ATH, and that's it besides games.

Yep. Their sensationalism, Northeastern bias, failure to objectively report, and knack for hiring complete numbskulls is grounds for worst sports network on the planet. Ironic that ESPN is the Fox News of Sports, and not Fox Sports.

I really hate the sportstainment they try to have SportsCenter. Please stop with the color commentary and just report the highlights. Stu Scott realllly ruined the network for me with his corny catchphrases.

As in it's become en vogue to make fun of them? I keed.

It's a 24/7 sports channel. If you don't want to hear things get blown out of proportion or hear about Brett Favre for the 237578th time, CHANGE THE  $$!!*!% CHANNEL!

As far as this whole cover-up story...you mean a Fortune 500 company is involved in shady or corrupt tactics?

shame on them.
A BIG HYPE machine Thank God for the NFL Channel

The irony.

I think it was the OP who actually said it:

Sports have a fan problem.

Wow, an ESPN apologist. What an absolute shame.

Ryguy, I know nothing of what you speak.

with the amount of Mike Vick topics on first and 10 this past week I fully believe ESPN = fox news of sports

several of their on-air personalities try to push their own personal agenda (Skip Bayless, Michelle Beadle, Colin Cowherd etc)

PTI and Around The Horn are the only shows where you get a decent opinion

I'd hardly consider myself an apologist. Outside of 30/30 and PTI (don't get what you guys see in ATH,) their programming is awful.

But nearly everything that people complain about (sensalitionism, yellow journalism, bias, overreporting, etc.) CNN/MSNBC/Fox are equally as guilty of in the news world, and E!/TMZ/People are equally as guilty of when it comes to celebs.

If you don't want to hear a political blunder get driven into the ground, don't watch CNN.
If you don't want to hear about Kim Kardashians cellulite, don't watch TMZ.
If you don't want to hear 37 angles on what Chris Johnson's new contract might mean, don't watch ESPN.

It's that simple.

Their deplorable tactics really aren't outside of the realm of what any major media outlet employs. It's a business, and businesses do a lot of shady things to sway peoples opinions.

BSPN, indeed...but so is everything else out there. That's all I'm saying.

You would be a model citizen in totalitarian regimes. "That's just what they do! Oh well."

So we shouldn't criticize big media outlets. We should just ignore them.

There's a lot of high level sports talk on the web. The only reason this same talk is not transferred to ESPN is because they have no incentive. Unless the feedback (ratings) changes, which criticism can drive, ESPN will not change.Aren't you a Tar Heel? You should be infuriated with decades of biased Dule coverage.

If ESPN = FOX News

The Patriots=Sarah Palin
The Red Sox=Mitt Romney
The Yankees=Rick Perry
The Eagles/Vick=Michelle Bachman
Lebron James=Speaker Boehner
NFL Live Team/Baseball Tonight= O'Reilley Factor
Radio Colin Cowherd= Radio Rush Limbaugh

Raiders = Socialists, Muslims, Illegal Immigrants, The Chinese
Al Davis = Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Barney Frank, HillaryClinton, KimJeung Il, HugoChavez, Gaddafi

So yes I hate ESPN.

Being from Canada, I can only really comment on ESPN.com and I really don't mind it, I get a lot of stuff from Insider (I don't even pay for it, lulz) and Soccernet is pretty good too. I don't think it's that bad. We get PTI, ATH and Jim Rome up here but I don't really watch it that much because I find Kornheiser annoying and ATH was cool at first but I haven't reaaally been into it lately for whatever reason.

ESPN has long ago crossed the line from Journalism to Entertainment.

They dont report unbiased sports news. They present their biased interpretation of the news to further their own agenda.

MSNBC, FoxNews, take your pick, they are all bias and suck. Most media giants are and doP.S. Read Chomsky

Agree with all of this. You basically took the words out of my mouth.
Is ESPN annoying sometimes? Yes. But so are a lot of other channels too that we watch on a day to day basis.

I dont see the point in complaining about it when it's given you hours and hours of entertainment throughout your lives.

BSPN is true...but when it really does get annoying, all i do is change the channel.

No the Raiders just suck.

Wow, sometimes I never now how irrelevant and blown out of proportion something is until I get on NT. PTI & SportsNation is the &^$>.
