jesus christ... Ive had this problem for ever.

Back in hs..i would have this problem in military school were we would do long treks or walks ( 3-5 miles) in our boots/commandos. and after the 2nd mile..myshins would just go crazy and I would just troop it.

I have the same problems now...example...I played soccer for 2 hours on monday.

Yesterday..I went for a jogg/run with my cousin. I stretched out and all and after 1.5 miles in..My shins were GONE !! I could not walk. I had to sit downwhile my cousin ran back home to get a car to pick me up.

I sat on the recliner and iced up my shin..After 10-15 minutes and relaxing...They seemed much better and I was walking with no limp or waddle walk word togucci mane.

This is a horriable pain ... I done some research but im trying to see or talk to folks who have "healed" without medical attention.

Its always my right shin and it blows out every once in a while but not very often.

Not to hijack your post but i got flat feet and every time i play ball, ultimate frisbee or even run i get nasty pain which last a day or two.
I feel the pain usually on my heel and the sides of my feet.
Can anyone recommended me some insoles?
Is there anything i can do to minimize the pain?

Thanks

I run year round.....but I always get this when I first start activity on a new surface, i.e. my first run outside in the spring, or first hoops game of theyear, etc. It eventually just goes away.

Stretching your CALVES really helps to minimize shin splints. A lot of people dont realize how connected they are. Proper stretching before and especiallyafter is key....it goes away much quicker. Rest also is important.

This may sound dumb but try running backwards for 30 seconds when you start feeling them.

It has worked for me in the past.

I would get it a lot while playing ball a couple of years ago. All I did was massage it with Flexall for about a week and a half and avoid any kind ofstrenuous activity that would make feel any sort of pain. It went away after two weeks or so.

all u can do is rest which means lay off running or jumping, and get proper fitting shoes ....i had it when i was in the military ...

, had it during a 20miler all i could do is suck it up.

yeah I had been getting these in my left shin when running a while back but I think it might be the shoes I was running in

I'll probably try running in some different shoes with more cushioning and see how that goes.

Had em back in High school...........annoying as hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All you can do is keep ice on them as much as possible whenever you can........i could barely run they were soo bad.

I had them. This really helps. After your workout, stretch your calves thoroughly. Then walk 80-100 yards ON YOUR HEELS. So instead of walking on the balls ofyour feet like normal, walk on your heels with your toes pointed to the sky. Then ice the shins for about 30 mins. Worked to help treat them for me. You HAVEto ice afterwards tho.

many thanks for the suggestions, while walking home yesterday.. hurt like hell.

i need to stay off them, means no soccer or cardio =(

if you guys have shin splints.. the reason that's happening is because you either have crappy shock absorption in your shoes or more importantly, youOVERPRONATE (flat footed individuals are more inclined to overpronate). this means that when you walk/run, your centre of pressure deviates medially (to theinside) putting more pressure on the medial side. The tibialis anterior muscle (the front part of your lower leg i.e. shins) runs from the front of your legdown the medial part of your ankle and attaches to your medial cunieform and base of your first metatarsal. if you overpronate, you put more pressure on thistendon, pulling it, therefore causing aches and pain going up that tendon and into your tib. anterior muscles i.e. SHIN SPLINTS.

your best bet if you are covered under insurance is to get ORTHOTICS. this will provide your foot with a decent arch support to prevent the collapse of yourarch and keep your gait as stable and neutral as possible. a cheap alternative is to get something over the counter that provides good arch support.

i work for an orthotics manufacturing company in Toronto so i see this issue all the time. hope this info helps!

for 30 dollars, and it's been amazing. got a few for basketball, walking, and running. plus, they come with a one year warranty, but the store manager saidi could just trade them in for new ones every 9 months or so in store. entirely worth it.

Never had them before...I dont have flat feet. I hear that has a lot to do with them. Maybe its your running form. Just go see a specialist.
