Going on Vacation - Riviera Maya, Mexico-

So in May im going to Mexico for the first time.  We are going to Riviera Maya and staying at the Catalonia Royal Tulum.  We got a killer deal (6 day 5 nights all inclusive for $609).  Has anyone been to Riviera Maya or the Catalonia?  We have a lay over in Cancun, does American money work at the Cancun airport, or do I need to get some Pesos?
