I've been to Los Angeles before with family, however, this time I am going with some friends of mine. Besides the normal touristy things, any people in LA got suggestions for some things to do/see?

check out the LA regional forum. might be a bit old, but there has to be half a dozen "what to do" threads in there.

I love the view at Griffith Observatory. But on a side note, why check out the universities unless you're applying?

The Westwood area is nice but USC? Maybe just the Coliseum

Umami Burger, LA Live, Santa Monica, Footage in Fullerton, Crooks & Castles shop, and a cosign on grabbing Carne Asada fries/nachos/burritos/tacos.

things to avoid: Hollywood Blvd on a Friday / Saturday night, Pink's Hot Dogs, Supreme LA.

OP said besides the normal tourist thing. I'm thinking you should hit some of the Hollywood or Downtown if you like that scene.

Santa Monica/Malibu beach: Cheap, check out some women up there.

Observatory: Cheap, nice view, but if you dont care about the stars, atmosphere and crap pass.

. . . and whatever the fellas said.

@Savraj: true that, I think it's because there are some nice sights to see at the campuses, or at least I think that's true about UCLA.

@youngdoc: yeah maybe not 'SC, but definitely the Coliseum.

@mojodmonky: I thought MacArthur was pretty nice to look at, maybe not something to go out of the way for but if it's something that you might pass up then it wouldn't be a waste. But I know what you mean, it's not the safest place.
