Grizzlies preparing to move?

Anyone think that these moves scream of a salary dump in order to up the value of a franchise for a potential sale and move out of Memphis?

The people of Memphis clearly treat the team as second class citizens - the Tigers are and always will be the #1 team in that town. The team has made nocommitment to bringing in winning players since moving to town and has done a lot to alienate the city - such as having an arena built at taxpayers expensewhen they had a perfectly good 20K seat arena just a couple of miles away.

The Sonics appear to be moving to OKC, so what other "untapped" NBA market is there? Maybe a return to Seattle after the Sonics go? Or maybe St.Louis? Who knows. I just don't think the Grizz will be there much longer. They already don't have a big fan base - and by getting rid of the core ofthe team (especially if Miller goes next) their fans will dwindle.

Sell the team and bring them to San Jose

IF managed right, that team will have a future in 2-3 years

Hornets, Sonics, now the Grizzlies all wanting to move.

The best way to handle this is to keep the Sonics in Seattle, let the Hornets go back to Oklahoma City, and move the Grizzlies to Las Vegas.

They've been trying to sell the team, but there are very few suitors that would buy a team that bad with a ton of money on the books. Now, they've gotmoney coming off the books, and no expensive, long-term deals hampering them, making the team more attractive to an owner who knows the proces of rebuilding agood team with that franchise has already begun. Get Mike Miller's contract off the books by the end of this year, and they're looking at their biggestcontract heading into 2008-2009 being Darko Milicic at 7 mil...

Comissoner Stern alreayd said if & when the Sonics move it would be a long time before Seattle ever gets a NBA team again.

I'd say if Memphis sold & moved they would go either Las Vegas or Kansas City.

Las Vegas because during the allstar game last year there were reports that David Stern had soften his stance about not having a NBA team there if Las Vegasdidnt close the sports books during games. Also the Sacramento Kings have made it known that their owners the Maloof brothers who own the Palms hotel &casino in Las Vegas might move the Kings to Vegas because they have for years been trying to get a new arena built in downtown Sacramento.

Kansas City because they have a new state of the art arena there.

Stern had softened his stance with regard to Vegas but that changed after the ref betting scandal. If Memphis is sold I could see them moving to Kansas City orSt Louis.

. If the grizz move it should beto St. Louis or KC so they can stay in the Southwest division and the NBA won't have to reallign the divisions.

I don't understand this. With all the talk about the Hornets, Sonics, and now the Grizz moving, I have to wonder how the hell does Atlanta survive? Theirarena is pretty much empty for every game.

No, he said there wouldn't be an expansion team. Teams can relocate there.

Maybe preparing for a move to Las Vegas?

Why not, they are building a state of the art sports complex:

Maybe they move up north a bit? The... Louisville Grizzlies? Lexington Grizzlies? Kentucky Grizzlies?

Not that I would be a fan, but people I definitely think the people here would support them. Considering that there is NO professional team here (compared tothe Predators and Titans in Tennessee), I think the people would support them.

What about calling them the Kentucky Colonels? I don't think it ever would have a chance of happening...

And by the way - yes TN has the Predators and the Titans, but Memphis HATES Nashville...it's almost like a different state.

^ I know; I used to live in TN, EXACTLY in between Memphis and Nashville (look where Jackson, TN is on a map. That's where I lived).

My point was that, without the Grizz, TN has TWO pro teams.

Without the Grizz, Kentucky has... none.

As far as the Colonels are concerned, you have no idea how few people know of the Colonels.

Actually, I guess that brings up an interesting point: people in KY really don't care about professional basketball. There are a few Cavs fanshere and there, but there are a TON of Bengals and Reds fans. True, Cincy is closer than Cleveland, but I don't think that's the entire reason peoplehere cheer for the pro teams in Cincy (Reds + Bengals) but way fewer cheer for the Cleveland Cavs; I think it has less to do with Cleveland's locale andmore to do with the fact that people here just don't really care a whole lot for NBA ball.

before i entered this post that was the first thing i was thinkingtoo. at the same time i might not like another team in the yay cuz the warriors own the bay area. i'm not gonna turn to a grizzlie fan all the sudden justcuz SJ is a good 20-30 minutes closer to me than Oakland is

though i am grizzlies fan, i would be fully and emphatically in favor of them moving to my home city of buffalo.

i don't really know why this is even be discussed though, the grizzlies aren't going anywhere.
