Aug 29, 2006
I've been waiting for him to finally go pro in a long time... copied form another site:

"All you need to know about Guillermo Rigondeaux, that before the troubles came, he was the favorite to win his 3rdOlympic Gold Medal at the Beijing Games and many predicted he could be the first boxer ever to win 4 Olympic Gold Medals. But when he and Erislandy Lara werecaught trying to defect in Brazil back in 2007, they were brought back to Cuba. Lara successfully left the Island a few months later, but Guillermo jumped offthe boat in the last minute and was banned from any boxing activity, therefore finishing his amateur boxing career with a stunning 243-4 record. Finally, he left Cuba and arrived in Miami in February 2009."

"He'll debut onMay 22, vs. Augusto Jimenez on ESPN2's FNFwith his ring idol Pernell Whitaker being in the corner, although no more info on his position. Yuniel Dorticos, Yordanis Despaigne and Yudel Johnson, the 3 Cubans who arrived with Rigo in Miami in February will make their debut on the show as well."
