HDTV HELP!! ( EXPERTS ENTER )

I work at best buy in the home theater department. Samsung by far is the best along with sony. They will have the best contrast ratios and refresh rates.

looks good nnarum..but can it handle videogames and such?

I play alot of fps, sports and fighter..for a few hours at a time..I was told plasma isn't the way to go a while ago if you play videogames..So Ihaven't looked for 1..

Has the plasma technology gotten better in terms of videogames and burn-in?

Picture quality is key in my decision...But price and bang for my $ is really the deciding factor...

read alot of positives reviews about the Toshiba Regza (consumer and expert wise)...

Pioneer and Panasonic will be great for gaming. Plasma technology can suffer image retention, which isn't permanent. Burn in will occur if you leavethe same image on for 24+ hours straight. Some sets have lasted 3 days straight with the same image without having burn-in. I used to be worried about itmyself, but I can't wait to upgrade from a Sony LCD to a plasma. It's really a big jump. I'm looking at the Pioneers now with their level ofblacks. They have the best level of blacks on any set, plasma/lcd/projection... Even classic tube TVs. Which is important because it will bring out the othercolors and have an image that "pops" and will really impress you. Resolution isn't everything. If you go LCD, get 1080p. If you go plasma, getPanasonic or Pioneer. Panasonic does offer a 1080p plasma for about $1500, but I'd spend the extra $400 and get the Pioneer. Hope this helps, goodluck!
Here's a pic of Bioshock on a Pioneer...

A contrast ratio is a measurement of how bright whites can be displayed and how dark blacks can be displayed. Don't get too caught up into this whenbuying a set. It's really just a number TV makers like to flaunt out there and sales people misunderstand the spec. I think the only time you should worryabout this is if you plan on watching just a blank white screen or just a blank black screen

Bingo... But in a more general sense, not just blacks and whites, but darks and lights.

I'm big on constrast in movies and games, so when getting all

overthe advertised contrast ratio, be careful where you see it.

Often at times, Best Buy fronts and puts incorrect (or even slicker, puts dynamic contrast ratios) up on their little spec printout.

Dynamic Contrast Ratios focuses more on the levels of black.

Unless you're a heavy gamer with games that utilize crazy levels of black like Condemned or Gears of War for the 360,

Dynamic Contrast Ratios (or DC Ratio) will be completely useless to you.

Realistically looking at this whole concept in general,

When you're sitting @ home engrossed in an HD movie, you won't be sitting there like,

"Luscious Lopez's gaping butthole isn't as contrasting as it is on the Toshiba... I must exchange this HDTV."

'Cause overall, your choices aren't bad choices at all...

And you probably won't even tell the true differences unless the HDTVs are all side-by-side with each other.

Sure, 1 will look better than the other side-by-side, but when the hell are you gonna have them side-by-side inside your home?

You're fine, homeboy... It's a good budget for a 40"+ so you already know you're not buying baseline crap.

^^Your choice of content for examining picture quality is hilarious. Haha....And yeah, the REGZA is going down in price. I got mine from Sears with a pricematch for just under $1300 with a free HD DVD player.

And nnarum....holy shnikes. Pioneers are underrated I suppose, atleast to people who put Samsungs on a pedestal. Now Samsung deserves this pedestal becausethey make great tvs, but I think Pioneer edges them out for the top choice. Samsung is more affordable for that type of quality.
