****How do you CUSTOMIZE Tearaway Vandals????****

Hey NT, I just got a brand-new pair of Geoff McFettridge Nike Tearaway Vandals. They have not been modified in any way so far and are 100% DS. I was wondering if anyone here could give me tips on how you go about taking off the outer layer so that it looks ripped up and stuff but without ruining the shoe? Also, what other options do I have as far as customizing them? I don't know anything about customizing, but I've seen Tearaway Vandals before, and I liked how they looked...so after picking up a DS pair, I am really looking to have some fun. Any instructions or tips are greatly appreciated! Thanks.

um...take a sharp object and cut away the pin stripe material, thats what I did.
