How do you trade shoes with someone online?

I found a pair of lebron 8 south beaches that I would LOVE to trade for! Only thing is, I have no idea on how to SAFELY do that! He has accepted my offer (big bangs, pure platinums and $150 cash through PayPal) I am shipping first. How can I avoid getting scammed, and what can I do if I get scammed?

I use to pay extra for them to send me either the right or left pair of the shoe. if it's legit then I send them the rest of the payment.
