I've been following this budgeting plan i got from a good friend and so far, so good. Here is what he sent me : "Budgeting 101

This is for those of you that were/are just like me. Sick and tired of being sick and Tired, Hating to see that theres more MONTH at the end of the MONEY, etc… AHHHH. Anyways…

Here is the Formula: Take your age (x) and minus it from 95. EX: Lets say im 22… it’ll be 22-95 = 73% of your "Non-bills" money should be saved. (as you get older you should look to invest)

***Make sure you make a list of your reoccurring expenses prior to doing this formula so that you can set aside your reoccurring expenses from your budget.

This is making my 2011 so much better."

Trunks206, I just turned 26. I been living alone since 18, went to school paid everything fairly quick but still managed to go in debt 40k.. :-X I just chipped away at the debt little by little. I won't lie I resold A LOT when I was 20-23 and would use the profit to pay off something. It took a lot of sacrificing and focus.

I don't want to give an exact number but I'm almost at 85k in my ING. IRA is stacked. I just got upset at myself for wasting my money from checks every week and really committed to savings. It can be done. Financial freedom is an amazing feeling. As far as my occupation I'm a loan specialist, manager at a bank and working on opening some businesses. I started off as a teller.

Keep doing your thing and I'll hopefully get on a similar path once I'm done with school.

Good S!!! man

And Audi is correct about property. I have two condos in FL I'm renting out but I NEVER touch that account I deposit the rent checks in because that money is going towards my future house. You can definitely save off that method but there's a lot more to it. Not as easy as it sounds.

Every other paycheck because I'm saving to go to Vegas in October and I'm gonna need a couple racks for that alone.

When renting out property how much relative to the value of the property do you find yourself paying to cover for maintenance, property management, etc?

none right now, getting a few things to my liking first before I start to throw cash in the bank account.

had to spend all my money on getting my car fixed.

I have been saving 80% of my income for about a year now. I use the other 20% for spending money and bills. My goal is to have like 2 years worth of yearly income saved up and invest it. Any ideas on what to invest on? I would love to hear.

Not enough! Since I support myself I find it hard to save. I go to school and work, both full-time. When I graduate, hopefully I'll be able to start saving.

Got two kids and wifey stays at home with my youngest, after all the bills are paid, cash for whatever entertainment for the weekend, and usually at least 1 jordan release per month, I put 10% of every check into my 401k wich my company matches 5% of so I'm generally 15% of my monthly income into savings , I also have a savings account attached to my debit card that funnels money from all my purchases it all adds up pretty nicely .

I didn't put it into my checking account because that meant I could've used my ATM card places and use money, I basically left it there untouched.

Looking back, it was a dumb move, I made like 0.05% interest and I should have invested it.
homie, aren't you like 16 or 17? Not that it matters (I'm 16) But you seem so damn smart
laugh.gif

you gonna be a billionaire.

Yeah I'm 17, I mean given the conditions I was able to do it because I had no bills to pay, live with my parents, use public transportation, basically all the money I made there was nowhere I "had" to use it.

Other than that, I'm pretty frugal with my money, I try not to spend it on stuff I don't need (shoes, video games, food), so I can save it for the nights when I go out with friends. I know I'm not going to be able to spend like crazy in college and the years after so I wanted to enforce the habits now.
