The Secret History of Guns
THE KU KLUX KLAN, RONALD REAGAN, AND, FOR MOST OF ITS HISTORY, THE NRA ALL WORKED TO CONTROL GUNS. THE FOUNDING FATHERS? THEY REQUIRED GUN OWNERSHIP—AND REGULATED IT. AND NO GROUP HAS MORE FIERCELY ADVOCATED THE RIGHT TO BEAR LOADED WEAPONS IN PUBLIC THAN THE BLACK PANTHERS—THE TRUE PIONEERS OF THE MODERN PRO-GUN MOVEMENT. IN THE BATTLE OVER GUN RIGHTS IN AMERICA, BOTH SIDES HAVE DISTORTED HISTORY AND THE LAW, AND THERE’S NO RESOLUTION IN SIGHT.

THE EIGHTH-GRADE STUDENTS gathering on the west lawn of the state capitol in Sacramento were planning to lunch on fried chicken with California’s new governor, Ronald Reagan, and then tour the granite building constructed a century earlier to resemble the nation’s Capitol. But the festivities were interrupted by the arrival of 30 young black men and women carrying .357 Magnums, 12-gauge shotguns, and .45-caliber pistols.

The 24 men and six women climbed the capitol steps, and one man, Bobby Seale, began to read from a prepared statement. “The American people in general and the black people in particular,

This is no secret. A white gun dealer at a gunshow I went to in North Carolina told me about NC's "Gun Permit" and how it originated. Basically everybody law abiding citizen had the right to own a gun...BUT they had to go through the Sheriff to get a permit to own. The Sheriff had to approve it...can you guess who never got approved? Exactly. Ole Sheriff was in cahoots with the KKK a lot of times, and they knew that if the negroes became armed that they would put up a resistance to the KKK. That's pretty much history now, things have gotten better.
1865 Louisiana      Blacks require police and employer approval to own
guns, unless serving in military. Louisiana Statute of 1865
prohibited blacks, not in the military service, from
"carrying fire-arms, or any kind of weapons...without
the special permission of his employers, approved and
indorsed by the nearest and most convenient chief of
                    patrol." (Fleming, p. 280)(GLJ, p. 344)
1866 United States  Klu Klux Klan formed. Purpose was to terrorize blacks
                    who voted; temporarily disbanded in 1871;
reestablished in 1915.  In debating what would become
42 USC Sec. 1983, today's federal civil rights
                    statute, Representative Butler explained "This
provision seemed to your committee to be necessary,
because they had observed that, before these midnight
marauders [the KKK] made attacks upon peaceful
citizens, there were very many instances in the South
where the sheriff of the county had preceded them and
taken away the arms of their victims.  This was
especially noticeable in Union County, where all the
negro population were disarmed by the sheriff only a
few months ago under the order of the judge...; and
then, the sheriff having disarmed the citizens, the
five hundred masked men rode at nights and murdered
and otherwise maltreated the ten persons who were in
jail in that county." [1464 H.R. REP. No. 37, 41st
                    Cong., 3rd Sess. p. 7-8 (20 Feb.  1871)]
1911 New York       Police choose who can own guns lawfully. "Sullivan
Law" enacted, requiring police permission, via a
permit issued at their discretion, to own a handgun.
Unpopular minorities were and are routinely denied
permits. ("Gun Control:  White Man's Law," William R.
Tonso, Reason, December 1985) "(T)here are only about
3,000 permits in New York City, and 25,000 carry
                    permits.  If you're a street-corner grocer in
Manhattan, good luck getting a gun permit.  But among
those who have been able to wrangle a precious carry
permit out of the city's bureaucracy are Donald Trump,
Arthur Ochs Sulzburger, William Buckley, Jr., and
David, John, Lawrence and Winthrop Rockefeller.
Surprise." (Terrance Moran, "Racism and the Firearms
                    Firestorm," Legal Times)

In February of 1967, Oakland police officers stopped a car carrying Newton, Seale, and several other Panthers with rifles and handguns. When one officer asked to see one of the guns, Newton refused. “I don’t have to give you anything but my identification, name, and address,

kind of on topic, anyone with free time on their hands should google Robert F. Williams. Long story short, dude was a WWII vet who organized neighborhood defense in Monroe NC, shot it out with the Klan, was accused of kidnapping a white couple, fled to Russia and Cuba, and still got a pardon.

Sadly, as has been documented by the unjust trappings of Mr. Newton and countless other minority leaders, these "united" states are unable to comprehend the depth and the dynamic of a Huey Newton, a William Cooper (author of "Behold the Pale Horse"), a Malcolm X, or a Martin Luther King, Jr. White people, by and large, DO NOT understand the plight of the Blacc, Hispanic, and Native in this country. There's a companion read of sorts known as the "White Man's Priviledge" which is basically a course if you will that demonstrates the unspoken, somewhat unseen yet VERY tangible advantages that the average white person enjoys in this nation. As a person of mixed ethnicity (mother Irish-German, father Blacc/Native) I have always been grouped as a minority due to my appearance, though genetically speaking my blood is more Caucasoid than anything.

Bottom line, great read.... minorities need to keep their eyes and minds open to the blatant and obvious racism that plagues this "melting pot of the world" what a joke....
