No, I don't have a blog...

I just got the "contributions" from my two group partners to our strategic marketing plan, which is worth 35% of our grade.

The one woman, who isn't in our cohort (she is being allowed to take the class to graduate), was given international considerations and controls. That wasit. It was due at 7 pm last night. I even gave them both some wiggle room and said make it by 9:30 pm. I got it at 3:21 am today. She basically went on someVoIP sites and copy/pasted. One page was nothing but a diagram showing how VoIP works. Another page was made up of rates from Vonage or VoIP.com. And in sixpages of B.S., she didn't even use the word international, let alone discuss the considerations.

The guy is not much better. I have been fooled by his image in class. We were all supposed to submit our sections one page single spaced. I think all three ofhis sections were at about 70% of the page. All along we have discussed the 25-40 age range as our target segment, his first sentence talks about 18-35.

The plan and presentation are due on the 21st. My goal was to get all the parts in and have a final draft by Sunday night. And I gotta do the executive summaryTuesday. I'm seriously thinking about telling the woman to pay me $50 and I just do her work. I'm not the type to snitch on someone, so that is theonly option I can come up with.

Cliffnotes
-I got one partner that turned in complete BS
-The second partner obviously wasn't listening

Instead of taking the time to write that summary, you could have completed the whole projected on your own.

On the real, we've all been there. Just have to deal with it.

I feel you man. I took my marketing capstone this summer, and had the same thing happened. My friend was a good partner though, and me and her basicallydid the entire project. A similar thing happened in my management class too, and I got extra points cause of peer evaluations. So when you make your peerevaluations, give honest ratings and let those kids fail the class.

That's just it Frank...we are all adults. This is an MBA program. I'm the youngest. Dude is in his late 30s I believe and she is in her 50s. I will bevery honest in the evaluations.

What up, it took me a couple of days to do my three sections. That lil rant didn't take any time hardly.

happens to the best of us. learning to deal with these deadbeats in group projects is part of the learning curve though. most workplaces have their share ofidiots that you'll have to work around/deal with. its nothing new buts its frustrating nonetheless.

you gotta sometimes take the leadership role and set the standards. tell them where they're lacking focus and ask if they could do a revision to theirsubmission along with a few suggestions on where to improve. honestly, most sensible mature people know to expect constructive criticism. its dealing withthose that spite you for telling them to do a better job that I absolutely hate to work with.

And usually the ones who don't do anything worth contributing are the ones taking the applause on a job well done. Despite the fact they probablydidn't even do a quarter of the work.

group projects bring out the worst in the group members. try and avoid working in a group with people you're friendly with

c/s real talk

I'm with you there, as soon as the professor says anything with "group" in it, I seriously get the urge to strangle someone

YO I hate group projects soooooo much I'd rather take the L and not do nothing. I always get grouped with idiots. I'll give them nothing and then speakto the prod/teach the day before presentation and give them all my work or something.

In the past I've been known to ask if I could do it myself.

On point.

i love doing my school work/assignments INDEPENDENTLY as well.. i ALWAYS choose to do the work by myself when i have the option...

I love group projects, people in my groups are always willing to work. There is always that one person who does less work than everyone else but I just make upfor them, no use in complaining

Simply all you have to do is TELL THE TEACHER. STITCH ON THAT B!!!!!!!!!!! 35% of your grade is not to be @#%%+* with

My film class is all group project videos, 6 of them actually. I've taken the reins & plan all of our shoots, pick scripts, & everything else.Another dude tried to lead the group but had no idea what he was doing. Gotta look out for your own grade man, no matter what you gotta do.

This happens in the real world.

I've only done 3 semesters co-op, but I've seen the same behavior displayed in Corporate America. Full time professionals straight up told me.

"You want to be the guy who gets credit for the project. The amount of work the man receiving the credit contributed tothe project is different story".
Something to think about while doing group projects. Even if you all did an equal amount of work, blow yourself up to be bigger than you are. It's goodpractice for those Fortune 500 companies. Your professors and later in life senior management, were not a long for the ride with your group. All they know is what you tell them.

One strategy a mid-level manager told me was, "Coast through the game and show up in the fourth quarter"

i found that if i gotta work with strangers and they tend to be lazy, connect with em, make em like you then motivate. of course of doesnt work with all pplbut been pretty successful at it.
if not, peer eval ftw. group projects are really just practice for the real world. gotta learn to love it. :/

become one of the non contributors, then you will love the group projects

word!
i hate them too....

espec. when your put with dumb ppl....

quick story,
last year, marketing
our teacher put the class in groups of 4, according to grades....
so the top 4 marks in the class were a group, etc.

i wish i never got lazy in that class
tired.gif

but i was in the 'so-so' group, so we had 2 smart/2 average....

so we split the project up, we each worked on one part of the project....
and i had to make a power point presentation at the very end....
so i needed the info, this chick in our group, was SUPER bad at english, like grammar, spelling and just making sense wise....
but she was not foreign....

it took me like 5 hrs. just editing her work....then i had to make a PP pres.
smh.gif

never again....
