If no football, would Rugby be #1 sport in America?

Lets say that Rugby was introduced to this country before the game of Football.

Do you think Rugby would be as popular as the NFL is today, to which their would be a NRL

I personally dont know the rules and the complications of Rugby. If you were watching Rugby for the first time, you'd probably have no idea what washappening. But i would argue the same could be said for Football, try explaining the ins and outs of the game to an avid soccer fan in Italy.

what im saying is both games are complicated, so you cant really use that as an excuse.

people can talk about the intricacies of the game all they want but the truth of the matter is that football's popularity rose to these heights in largepart due to the fact that it's the sport with the most high velocity physical contact. it's what the initial audience was captivated by.

bottom line: most people like to see other people knock into each other and for others detailed plays allowed certain fans to feel intelligent and refute claimto the physicality by learning the intricacies.

isnt that even more prominent in a sport like Rugby where theres even less armor being worn

You've not been watching much rugby then. The modern game is incredibly physical.

It's not any more complicated than football either - and arguably less complicated as there's not the offense/defense/special teams things - everyonejust plays and the game flows more.

If football didn't exist then maybe rugby or something similar would have its place - but it's impossible to know really.
