Any tips for the Atlanta area?

Some General tips/best practices I use whenever I move to a new city:

-First thing I do is figure out what Government/Federal agencies are located in my city. I check for all military bases, agencies and organizations.

-Second thing I do is browse a list of contractors in the area as well. I drive through the city or around and pay attention to large buildings with SAIC, Northrop Grumman, Boeing, Lockheed, etc. on them.

I also pay attention to which contracts are being awarded and who is winning them.

If there are Government Agencies there will be contractors....if there are contractors, there will be sub-contractors.

All this means is more job opportunities for someone searching.

I was only in Atlanta briefly before being shuttled to Anniston, AL this past Spring.

I'll take a look and see what I can find.

What is it that you are looking for or do?

No worries.

That is a popular notion/stigma, but not entirely true. Obviously it helps to know someone who can see your resume to the HR Manager/Specialist or put in a word to the Division Chief and get you an interview, but it is not the only way. Vets Preference does help, but there are enough jobs (depending on the location) to land one.

It can definitely be a frustrating process and often times the hard work and time put in goes unnoticed and unrewarded. It might take 100 apps to get one interview.

These intern programs are a great way to get into Federal Service. Not many jobs out of college will pay you $40,000 with three $10,000 raises in the first three years.

Once you get your foot in the door as an intern/SCEP/STEP/federal service employee or even a contractor....the sky is the limit.

If you have any questions or need a hand with something....let me know.

I think I sent you a resume not too long ago. The positions I'm looking for are very hard to get without a security clearance or some sort of military experience. I did apply to some of those internships (I agree these are a great opportunity) and got past the initial screening, but never an interview. I've sort of given up using USAjobs.gov and applied to some agencies directly (that allow you to do so) and have tried to use contacts I have to land something in D.C. Thankfully, I'm at a good job right now and aren't doing this without any source of income.

Good thread. Will keep my eyes open in here if anything opens in AZ. I get out of the service in a year time to start planning ahead and seeing whats out there after Military life.

Yeah man, trying to do a little something and pay it forward. Appreciate it.

Networking events and organizations like AFCEA/NCMA/PMI/etc. all have groups/networks/events that help people meet and exchange info.

Same here, looking for something in the central florida area.

What do you do?

AZ is nothing like back home in DC/VA/MD....but I didn't find it too difficult finding contracts and agencies out here.

DCMA Keystone Program (Intern Program) Positions have been posted this week. The announcements are open for about two weeks and these are great entry level positions for recent College grads.

DLA has posted some of theirs as well. They come around twice a year.

And yes...I'm still heated after watching KD and Russ piss away Game 6. I was on a Cruise surrounded by bandwagon GS fans. This software engineer from Apple kept yelling "Go Steven!" SMH....who the hell is Steven Curry :smh:

Alright ppreciate it. I posted some more deets about the whole fiasco here http://niketalk.com/t/596982/information-technology-it/1740#post_25656643 Bunch of crooks. I'll hit you up though once I find out what the contract # was too, I think I even have the actual contract and bid proposal too because when our "lead" left, he sent it to us like LoL yall check this out.

Man, KD/Russ ruined the summer for me. If I wasn't so lazy I'd ebay all this Thunder merch I have.

Any IT project coordinator or junior IT PM roles floating around out there? never been a true PM, but would love to get my foot in on a role like that.

What kind of questions do they ask for a security clearance? Make it seem mad intrusive.
