Hello fellow NT'ers. This may seem like a stupid topic, but I wanted to see if anyone on this board is from this area or could give me some informationabout it. I live in Northern VA/DC and I am a senior in high school. I just got accepted to UVA so I'm trying to figure out what kind of area it is. Ifanyone could tell me about it I would really appreciate it. Good restaurants, sneaker shops, the community, lifestyles, shopping...etc. Thanks for any kind ofinfo.

You ain't gonna find sneaks if that's what your asking. It's pretty much your typical college town. A couple of things downtown, restaurants andbars not too far off campus (I forget what they call it). If I was a UVA student I think I'd hate it there. I just usually go to visit some friends. Youshould go visit yourself. It's what, about an hour and a half away from Nova? Congrats on getting in btw. My brother got waitlisted

but he's going out of state anyway.

Thanks. I'm going down tomorrow and will visit several times before making my decision. I know there aren't real sneaker shops or anything, but wheredo area people go for limited stuff, etc.?

Hit 64 to Richmond. It's about 45 to an hour away. Probably the closest to an Urban account.

Youre at UVa...youre getting a top tier education and you are going to let the availability of some trendy limited shoes and clothes determine where you go toschool.....

I hope this isnt the case.

The local chicks are stuck up. But the students get it in.

All and all its a beautiful city/town in the fall and spring. Wish I had a reason to go back.

I am certainly not going to let sneakers determine where I go to college. I was more wondering what the area's like and sneakers/shopping was a part ofthat. At this point its probably because of in state tuition, but I figured I get an idea of the area from others that know it better than I do.

Go there, it will be a worth while education. Stay away from Tech on the other hand. Bunch of douche bags down there

tons of white females.

but its super dope down there.

clean air, nice river to go rafting or swimming.

dave matthews always pops up.

I went for a football camp years ago, and it did not seem like a fun campus, but it was the summer time

definitely don't judge based on being there in the summer. Had some of my most fun nights in college up there

Good looking campus, decent girls. Education there is pretty good, but some of my best friends that go there say it's not much different from the educationthey get during the summer here at GMU or Marymount or AU.

UVA is just prestigious and looks really good to have slapped on your diploma.

I've been down a few times for parties. It's fun, but if you're not stuck-up or a "gopher" to the majority of these females, YNS. Some ofthe most rude, arrogant, snobby women I have ever encountered. I went to a party with one of my boys and he introduces me to some women. One of them asks whereI'm visiting from, I say GMU and I get a facial expression like...

from 3 of them. They quickly backed out of that convo. I guess the gold-digging starts there at freshman orientation.

Man congrats, stay strong and !%#$, beware of the racism there it still exists and is very alive, get ya work done, i go to vcu so i guess u will becoming herefor releases its plenty of room for more sneakerheads

^I'm white but thats the kind of attitude that worries me about UVA. I visited VCU with my girlfriend who is going there next year and I saw so manydifferent types of people. People of different races, dressed differently, acting differently, thats the atmosphere I want to be a part of. But in the end itwill be pretty hard to say no to an education at UVA.

Yeah there is a lot of diversity at VCU, but that is because VCU is mainly an art school, I would stick to UVA if you have the abilities to cope with it,because sometimes even though its a top notch education it might not be a good fit for you. If you can survive it will make a man of you, congrats, pics ofgirl??? naw j/p

UVA if its an option is a good move my man.

Phins.. most people from other area schools will give you that look if you say you are from Mason my man...lol not just UVA chicks..

Education is good.. Looks good on the resume and it's women are like any other. Talk to them the right way and you can get at any of em. but you have agirl. For now. lol Plus.. again.. if you want diveristy.. you can still visit other surrounding schools and friends there. UVA is not a place you want to hangfor summer session cause it is boring there.. but it is a place you can count on for being looked at higher than others going to JMU or Mason or even Americanand GW...

Trust me.. when I transferred to Maryland from A&M I worried about that.. but there are more Terrapin Alum in this area who will strike up convo based onhaving been a student there than anything.

At Nike... there were quite a few Terps and it made Networking alot easier in some instances.

Thanks for all the advice everyone, its always appreciated. This is a pretty big decision in my life and I guess I'm trying to get all the information Ican before I commit.

Only place in the world I've been where a white person dropped the N-Bomb in my face referencing me... and I couldn't react because I was working as acamp counselor and had 10 11-12 year olds right next to me (whom were all white).

Anywho, my ex goes there. She complains about it... then again she complains about everything which means you'll probably like it.
