iPhone 4S Wi-Fi not appearing?

Look at this... My wi-fi isn't appearing and the option to look for any networks is totally greyed out. What's going on here???

My friend was just talking about this problem. He has the iPhone for Verizon and when he notice that his usage after the 2nd day of the billing cycle was at 50% he called verizon. He was told that on the new software update there was a glitch that did not let the iPhone connect to wifi, nevertheless after hours on the phone and a few transfer till he reached the manager he is going to get credit for any overage until the problem gets fix. So lets see what happens now.
