Is there really a discernible difference between PS3 "brick" and the PS3 Slim?

In the market for a PS3.
As the title states, I am deciding between a PS3 "brick" 80gb and the slim 120gb. Besides the obvious hard drive and size differences, is the slimmore advanced?
How much of a difference is that 40gb in space? Specifically, how much space have you guys used?

    Thanks in advance.

only 2 usbs and space. With the PS3 space is kinda important because of the CONSTANT INSTALLING of every game you play and all. You can always upgrade the HDDyourself though

Not really sure. I just got the slim for Christmas so I'm kind of wondering the same.

The guys in the PS3 thread should be able to answer everything specifically, but I know the slim ps3's use less energy and are cooler.

I have a 40 GB and mine has filled up several times and I've had to delete stuff off of it, but I still was able to fit a lot of movies and several seasonsof tv shows on there before that's happened. It also isn't a huge deal for me, I just transfer my stuff via flash drive.

I had the Brick and got the Slim for Christmas. Idk if it's just me or whatever, but the browser on the brick seemed to be slightly smoother than the slim.

    Also, Media Servers ftw. [IMG]

only first gen has backward comp
the slim is more energy efficient and can raw stream HD-Audio codecs to receivers and also have built in decoders but you can't install linux in it.

the fat can't stream raw codecs to receivers but it does have a built in decoder, use more power but you can install linux in it.

the fat is also slightly faster

Yes it can.........Sony decided to cut cost and instead of the backwards comp hardware, you can download backwards comp software @ PS network store underadd-ons.

If you cant find it right away, search ps2 games on ps3 playablity and it'll give you the option to download the software to play ps2 games.

    I got an 80GB PS3 [IMG]

The only difference is the backwards compatibility.

Can't play PS2/PS1 games on the "Slim".

But the "Brick" one you can play PS2/PS1 videogames.

No it can't. That software is for the backwards compatible systems to let certain ps2 games use the ps3's hard drive.

So the 20 GBs are the only ones that can play PS2 games?

You might be right.......Dude @ BestBuy told me it works. I downloaded it but didn't even bother to play a ps2 game on it yet. I believed it was good to go

To OP: for $50 more, I'd get the 250gb ps3 slim.
