This is my personal opinion, but I hate, hate job (staffing) agencies. They take way too big of a cut of your salary, and when you work you're working for them and not the company that you're working for.
I guess it's not a bad idea to check it out, but just be sure to listen carefully and make sure they're not robbing you of your salary.

I figured this was the case

Thanks for the info man. I'll stop by and discuss with them how much they plan on taking out of my check.

dog, this is from a friend's experience, but staffing agencies do work.  at my job he told me he came in as a temp and worked for a good 2 months and the place offered him a full-time position.

you can ask the staffing agency how much they plan to cut from your check but they'll probably tell you to kiss their buttholes.. it's really none of your business.  but i'll tell you something from my job.. i did some ap stuff and usually temps get paid about $9-11 dollars depending on what your doing.. and the agency got about $15-16.  So they take a big piece but don't even think about the money like that.  you need a job and they supplying, so just work hard and see if there is opportunity for a full-time out there... if not with this particular company.. move on to the next one.. and so forth.

Just to mention my own experience with staffing agencies, so you know where I'm coming from, a staffing agency set me up with an interview for a job at this computer hardware company, and they were offering me a 30K cut out of an entry-level engineering job. Considering the average entry-level engineering job is in the 55-60K range, that's ridiculous. Even if the job is relatively low-paying for an engineer job (maybe 50K), that's still a ridiculous 40% cut they end up getting.
I interviewed knowing that, since at that time I wasn't getting many calls and I figured why not. But after thinking about it, I really couldn't stand working for a staffing agency and being robbed of my salary, so I withdrew.

dont trip i woulda done and same thing.  if u feel like trolling... call sears back up and say u had to take a dookie.. or something came up and u had to run out.  and just say by the time u came back nobody was there.

do you have a degree?  if u dont u should consider buying one online.  get a print out and just bring that to interviews.  i would aim for bookkeeping jobs since they don't care much for degrees.  just act like u know how to do some bookkeeping and say u have 1-2 experience (google some words so u can fool the person) and bam.. start pay for bookkeepers is like 10 and can go up to 15-20 an hour

is this common lol

I went to a job interview and told them I had a accounting degree.. they asked some technical questions about auditing.. obviously I prepared good enough to know the basics.. I googled it the night before.

I didn't even buy a degree but was planning to if they asked for one (yes its easy to buy one... you can make one too but I don't have a printer)... they didn't even ask for my transcript or anything.  I'm good looking so maybe that's why.

Certain industries don't care about your degree or where you're from because you'll learn as you go.  For instance, the import/export business has a ton of different jobs available... no matter your background... if you come into that industry you will have to start learning and work your way up.. so they prefer entry-level people so they can mold you.  But still, they must have standards (all jobs do.. like a minimal).. degrees, grades, and gpa.. but most of the time if you come off as a person who can be mentored in this particular field.. then they 'overlook' things.

Today was the first day of my new career... Felt good to go over the benefit package and know that I can retire from this job.

Felt good to walk around the shop and see a real work environment that requires skilled hands and strong minds.

Felt good to get my union application.

Unfortunately, I don't think I'm allowed to say much about my job due to the security risk (they take it VERY serious) but man...

similar situation. staffing agency set me up with a high-tech firm for an interview.  the job paid $20/hr and i knew they were taking a big cut.  i thought i landed the job, but the agency came back and told me they were gonna hire within
grin.gif
.  another time, they told me about a job with a local hospital that was paying 30k, i sorta knew what company they were talking about since he described an ad i saw posted on my school career site and i decided to go their website and the job paid about 42k.  staffing agencies do work, you just got to keep in touch with them and let them know what you want.

Searching for part time employment has been the story of my life for the past 5-6 years. In high school, everybody was getting part time gigs, not me though. My only "real job" was a paid internship last summer, but I got a call to work at the PGA Championship next week, so I'll make a little change before I head back to school in a couple weeks. Where the search will begin again....
