This is one of those things that I can try explaining but if you don't understand it at this moment, you never will. I don't say that to sound like an a-hole either, I'm being honest. It's just like when I try to explain to people why I keep my shoes DS. Some people get it, others don't. For comparison, I have a friend who's a video game collector. He buys every system, every version that comes out. He has like 3 PS4's right now. I'm not into video games so I don't understand why he has 3 of them. However, this is what he does. Video games is his life so I don't question it. To other video game heads, he's a guru. On a larger scale, there's a car collector with 3 Bugatti Veyrons. Why does he need that many of the same car? It's not for me to question his hobby.

^See that pic right there, that's a few pics I grabbed off of my IG. I been doubling/tripling/quadrupling for over a decade. Again, without sounding like an a-hole, it's a trait I learned from the OG collectors. It's something that collectors do.

That pic is from the legendary DependableJay. Best way I can explain it, buying multiples is a COLLECTORS trait. I emphasize collectors, not to be confused with hypebeasts or "sneakerheads". It's something we've been doing for YEARS. For me personally, if I really like a shoe I'll usually double up. Sometimes I'll do the whole rock and stock situation. However, I have multiple shoes that I have doubles/triples of and both/all pairs are DS (like my Royal 1's. Both are DS and will never get worn). Sometimes it's just nice to have multiple pairs of your favorite shoe lol. I can't really explain it..

That would suck to see your collection being auctioned off on an episode of Storage Wars.

With some early reports that a lot of stores are getting the new Bred 1s with "limited supply," we need to expect the same scenario when these Royal 1s come out.

The game gotta be on point next May if we wanna at least cop 1 pair of these

I defiantly not a collector, I never can keep any of my shoe DS. I have to wear them I can't help myself
Hopefully I can get one pair of these. That's all I need.

Purchasing the different iterations of the same shoe I can understand but purchasing three plus pairs of the same version (year) I don't.

Just let people do whatever they want to do with the shoes. If they wanna buy more pairs then one more power to them. I just doubled up on the BM 5s that just dropped

Yeah I know but it just seems obsessive a little bit. Me personally I would want different shoes than the same shoe.

Yeah I definitely agree. I like seeing different ways to collect shoes, I find it interesting how people can keep shoes DS forever and I can't keep myself from wearing them. If we were all the same the world would be a very boring place.

Thanks for explaining yourself and I apologize if I came across as passive aggressive in my original question.

I know who DependableJay is and I recognize him as one of the top dogs in this sneaker hobby. That said I consider myself a 'collector' of sorts too but I like wearing my stuff and I do my best to keep them pristine. Again with Nike/JB re-retroing repeatedly I don't get the point of stocking multiple re-retros. From a true collector's perspective I get having a pair or two of OGs and maybe a retro+ in an orginal colourway as shown in DependableJay's pictures.

It's the multiples of re-retros (of questionable quality) that's strange to me but I guess I'll never understand that as you said.

It's multiple reasons I do it. For me personally, I also sometimes think about the future. For example, my 2 pairs of Royal's. Say a pair of Fragments pop up and the seller says "Will trade my VNDS sz.12 Fragments for DS Royal's and $200." Guess what'll be on the first thing smoking? One of my Royal's. The beauty is I have 2 so I don't lose Royal's out of my collection. Sometimes that goes into consideration when doubling up. Another example, if I play my hand right, I plan on getting 3-5 pairs of sz.12 Bred 1's on 9/3. If I get 5 pairs, at least 2 will be available for trade for shoes I don't currently have (Frags and Blk/Gold 1's for starters).
And me, I RARELY wear the shoes I collect. I'm more of a Roshe type guy. I opt for comfort over style a lot of the times. This year I been wearing XII's because they're comfortable but normally I can be found in Roshe's.

^My collection from back in like '02/'03 when I was 16/17. Till this day my Rose Garden's, White Sheed lows (3rd shoe in the back), Black Sheed highs, and Carolina Sheed highs are all DS. I been keeping shoes DS since I started lol.
You're good bro, I wasn't offended. And in DependableJay's pics, those Wht/Navy patent leather IX lows are all the same. The XVII's are all OG's that he doubled/tripled/quadrupled up on back when they released.

As far as quality, I turn a blind eye to it seeing as how I don't wear my shoes anyway. If shoes got good quality (Shattered Backboards), yay. If they have terrible quality, so be it. Jordan's haven't had good quality in almost a decade now. I accepted it a long time ago and made my peace lol.

^That picture above is from a LeBron collector named yung_lion_23. The bottom right pic, those are all left shoes. He has 10 pairs of Doernbecher 13's alone. This picture is why I say if you don't get it now, you never will. I saw these pics and immediately nodded my head in approval and liked the pics. I get why he has this many multiples, I just can't put it into words lol.

^Owner with 3 different Bugatti Veyron's. Crazy, right? I don't understand why he needs 3 Veyron's but it's not for me to understand lol. His money, his life, his collection lol. Can't say if I had the money I'd have 3 $1.5 million dollar cars but I would definitely double up on a few cars...

No need for further explanations or justifications my dude. I hear what you're saying and as a 'gear-head' you don't even want to get me started about buying cars and parking them for decades but I hear the argument of not wanting to drive a Ferrari from the 60s with less than 5 in existence worldwide.

On the subject of sneakers or keeping anything DS for that matter; to me personally it's somewhat moot because if something catastrophic were to happen to you, another individual would take your belongings and place no value on its condition, value, etc... They could potentially wear the shoes and essentially get the experience that you could've had!

Anyways I'll stop deviating and I'll reach out to you next year for the size 10 hookup seeing as you're able to scour multiples!

^^^ This. I understand car collecting to certain degree. I know of a guy who collects porsche 911s from different eras. That guy's my hero and I aspire to do that myself someday. Granted he drives the cars though. That's what you do when you reach that level and can afford to do so and it's certainly not uncommon for millionaires/billionaires to collect cars. But seeing those shoe "collections" almost makes me sick to my stomach and I kinda feel for the guys who do that, honestly. Yeah 2 maybe 3 for the sole purpose of wearing eventually or maybe for trade bait down the line sure (I guess), but "collecting" that many to have sit and NEVER be worn for me is cringe worthy and something one doesn't have to try and explain because that's something I don't even want to try to understand :smh:.

To be frank it reminds me of an age old term used in the bible called "gluttony". (Not to proclaim any religious sentiment one way or the other).
