I actually got a close friend that is a HUGE kobe stan, and his blind stannery of kobe through out the years turned me from being a fan as a kid, to hating him. that, along with realising what a self-serving, ball hog, toxic team mate he was.
I guess that as a kid I was a fan of #8, but I grew up.

So according to Laker fans Pau was never an elite player till he went to LA



His stats/game play identical his whole career.

 

yeah...Kinda ridiculous since before he was a Laker dude practically single-handedly brought his team to 3 straight playoffs in the tough west. He never won a playoff game but dudes act like he was just some David West type player or something. He went against the GOAT PF his first match, then the MVP his next, and then the legend known as Dirk, who went onto the Finals that very year.

Now maybe he wasn't "elite," cause I never considered him that anyway, but he damn sure wasn't just some decent player that just happened to turn good once he got to LA. Dude was THE franchise player in Memphis for crying out loud.

The funny thing is these the same dudes that think Kevin Love is this GREAT player that Bron has on his team, yet K Love has NEVER even sniffed the playoffs until he got to Cleveland.

I guess I shouldn't be too shocked though cause this the same fan base that said Antawn Jamison = Pau Gasol

One All Star appearance before hand makes you elite? Guess Rik Smits, Antonio Davis, Dale Davis, Chris Kaman, Antonio McDyess, etc were elite too. At least most of them won a playoff game.

 

Not a Laker fan.  Pau was not an elite player pre-LA.  Period. 

Elite players are the best of the best.  Not top 15-20 players.

 

Downplaying how great Pau Gasol was before he got to the Lakers?
