and yes the Spurs eliminated us in 99 and 03

    and those really hurt

but we eliminated them in 01, 02, 04 and 08

so the hurt in Spurs fans' hearts must be alot worse

It's going to be awesome end this decade on a great note:

Lakers cementing themselves as the team of the decade
Phil Jackson cementing himself as the greatest NBA coach of all-time
Kobe cementing himself as the best player of his generation and a top 10 player of all-time (this should get some people in here riled up)

Spurs never winning back-to-back........much less THREE PEAT

so you never know how a Spurs player would react to a 3-peat being ended, cuz they've never been in that situation

    Ok.

    Still, no.

I know Phil has more championships as a coach...but I still consider Red Auerbach the greatest basketball coach of all time.

    Ok....

As a coach, yes, Phil does have more championships. But does that mean he's a better coach? No. Red has 9 rings asa coach but ALSO as general manager and team president of the Celtics he won 7 additional NBA titles which brings him to 16. Sure, Phil has one morechampionship than Red as a coach (two more soon) but in my opinion Red Auerbach is a far better teacher of the game AND he contributed to the Celtics longafter he left the head coaching post.

Phil Jackson has received the blessing of coaching a player that is considered the consensus "Best NBA Player of All-Time" and also a player (Kobe)that has been compared and contrasted to Michael ever since he's won three rings and on his way to four. ALSO...Phil was able to coach a player that manypeople consider the "Most Dominant Basketball Player of All-Time" (Shaquille O'Neal).

Phil Jackson inherited the Chicago Bulls team he won six championships with, and again the Lakers team wherehe has won three championships thus far. He had no part in assembling the rosters, that job was handled by the GMs. A large part of Red Auerbach's geniuswas the way he assembled the Celtics roster in order to win as many championships as they did. He put together many trades or drafted every notable player theCeltics had during their championship years through 1984. His trades include obtaining the draft rights to Bill Russell in exchange for Ed Macauley and CliffHagan and acquiring Robert Parish and the draft rights to Kevin McHale for the draft rights to Joe Barry Carroll and Rickey Brown.

Overall...I think Red Auerbach is a better COACH than Phil Jackson and also he's contributed so much tothe Celtics even after he left his HC position.

I'd like to hear Laker fans (Mamba MVP in particular) thoughts...

You made some valid points, but it's not like Red coached a bunch of scrubs: 9 Hall of Famers-Ramsey, Cousy, Sharman, Heinson, Russell, K.C. Jones,Havilcek, Sam Jones, Bailey Howell. His exploits as a GM can't be overlooked, but that's not coaching. But if you want to: Bird, Parish, McHale,Cowens, etc. He had even more so the fortune of having many of the greatest to ever play the game.

It was never Phil's role to be a GM of a team, he's without a doubt the greatest manager of huge egos in sports history. It's no coincidence thatMJ, Kobe or Shaq didn't get over the hump and become champions until Phil came along, he's a master motivator who has always maximized the talent thathe was given. He's shown just how good of a coach he is by taking this entire new group of young players to the doorstep of greatness.

That's why I said the greatest NBA COACH of all time.
