Toshiba announces 750GB and 1TB laptop HDDs, gives them awkward model names like MK7559GSXP
By Vladislav Savov posted Mar 25th 2010 6:55AM

Time for us to welcome the world's most capacious 9.5mm-tall hard drive, the 750GB MK7559GSXP. Yeah, it's quite a mouthful, but then it's not every day that you come across a storage disk that packs data quite so tightly, so maybe this is a name worth remembering. Not only is Toshiba's new two-platter 5,400RPM beastie the first ever to rise above 640GB without expanding to the chunkier 12.5mm height profile, it's also claimed to be 14 percent more energy efficient than the Japanese company's previous biggest model. If you don't mind moving up to the 12.5mm class, Toshiba's also bringing out a new MKxx59GSM series, which can stretch all the way up to 1TB, thanks to fitting three platters into the 2.5-inch diagonal space. Samples of both will be distributed to system manufacturers by the end of April, with mass production following soon thereafter.

there's already one available at Newegg by WD but it's 12.5 and that doesn't fit most laptops. So I'm glad this is finally coming out, cause not to long ago I asked if there were any TB hard drives for laptops out.

From my geek side IT is awesome. From my average user side, why on earth would want to carry that much space and not use it. With the exception of DJ's, graphic designers and gamers there is no need for a bigger hard drive.

u forgot producers!!!!

definitely not for the average consumer... unless they're a FLAC x HD movie junkie

it's the american way. the bigger the better.
I just know I get tired of having to delete stuff and move it to external HD. and I use my laptop for everything since my desktop is crap.
It'd be cheaper to just buy a new machine than to try to upgrade it

Eh, I really wouldn't want that much space in my system, I'd rather have it as an external

Do people really need bigger than even 500gb? How much porn are you saving on your laptop?
