R.A. Dickey

- Back-to-back one hitters

- Past six starts is 6-0 with an ERA of 0.18

- One earned run allowed in the last 48 2/3 innings with 63 strikeouts

One of the great pitching runs of all-time, really comparable to when Orel Hershiser threw 55 scoreless innings straight. Pretty amazing run for  a 37 journeyman pitcher who is more famous for climbing Kilmanjaro and publishing a book of memoirs.

It's also funny how I see people calling him a novelty act as if to discredit how good he has been.  The guy has been one of the best pitchers in the NL for a couple years now, he just finally put it all together this year.

I know you'll probably disregard this AMP but I'll leave this sheet here.

Top 10 this year, maybe even top 5, sure.

He's 11-1?!

FAR from a novelty act. I thought he was last year, but ya undeniable now. He's a late bloomer, but man, did he ever bloom.

Nah, I know Pro but if you guys can make a Derek Jeter is hitting .400 thread after two weeks I can't make this thread after an amazing stretch of dominance?
I think in terms of NL guys he has definitely been best.  Plus the Mets are a terrible fielding team which doesn't help his cause at all.

don't base it off that old fool making that thread and tanking Jeter's cause.

Right now, I'd say he's up there with the kids from Washington, Cain and Greinke. Each has been dominant and has a claim to the throne in the NL right now. I don't see what's wrong with saying that.

Yea Mez, he's in the top 10. Where he ranks in there is a debate. Would it make you feel better if I said in the top 6?

Fine, top 6. WAR is a pretty good barometer of rankings. Takes all basic and advanced stats into account as well and competition, parks pitched in/home-road splits, team defense and lineup rankings.

Baseball reference is a little funky in it's calculation and misses some components (doesn't adjust for league difficulty, divisional difficulty and a couple other things I'm drawing a blank on now) but does have Dickey tied with Verlander FWIW.

WAR for Pitchers s c a p y
1. Verlander (DET) 3.5
Dickey (NYM) 3.5
3. Peavy (CHW) 3.4
4. Sale (CHW) 3.1
5. Cueto (CIN) 2.9
6. Gonzalez (WSN) 2.5
7. Miley (ARI) 2.4
Dempster (CHC) 2.4
Hammel (BAL) 2.4
10. Lewis (TEX) 2.3
Wilson (LAA) 2.3
Greinke (MIL) 2.3
Lynn (STL) 2.3
Cain (SFG) 2.3

I was at the game last night, it was incredible! Dickey is an unbelievable run right now. Consider he has gone I believe 43 innings without giving up an earned run! COME ON SON! Bringing that energy back to the Mets!

Here's a good article on his success this year.

Spoiler [+]
R.A. Dickey leads the Majors in strikeouts. He has more than Stephen Strasburg, more than Justin Verlander, more than Gio Gonzalez. Nobody in baseball has generated as many strike threes as R.A. Dickey. Since he has never done anything like this before — his next strikeout will actually match his 2010 total — people are asking him what he’s doing differently. After his second straight one hitter last night, Dickey was asked this again. His response:

“The strikeouts, you can look at FanGraphs or PITCHF/x or whatever you do to figure it out.

He's putting in work this season

And he gets to do it again on a National Stage since Sunday's Yanks/Mets game is on ESPN. as of now, it looks like it will CC and Dickey
