let this thread die (NYK)

Word as Ravage pointed out we need more plays from D'Antoni. The Knicks are winning playing playground basketball right now but I don't think this will work against the better teams in the league.

And we need to stop switching so much on that pick and roll defense. What happened to fighting over the screens and going after your man. I can't understand for the life of me why we do that.

All in all good win, good vibes man.

And finally...someone speaks up and says something about George Karl.  K-Mart:
LOS ANGELES -- From 2004 to 2011, Kenyon Martin played the role of enforcer behind Carmelo Anthony on the Denver Nuggets. They might not be teammates anymore, but the Martin is still coming to his longtime friend's defense.

With Anthony's return from a strained right groin injury nearing and so much scrutiny about whether or not he'll be able to mesh with point guard sensation Jeremy Lin, Martin -- who signed with the Clippers recently after playing in China -- said the concerns of fans and media are unfounded. Anthony, as Martin sees it, will do what it takes to make it work.

"First of all man, I wanted to call in to ESPN and say something when I saw them saying [Anthony would mess it up]," Martin told SI.com. "Melo wants to win. The man is a competitor, and he wants to win. He's as competitive as they come.

"Smart basketball player, and the best player on that team -- hands down. So I don't understand why people are questioning whether he's selfish or not. No, the man is not selfish. The man wants to win. He'll do whatever it takes to win. I don't think he'll mess nothing up. He's going to come in and be Carmelo Anthony."

Being Carmelo Anthony was considered a good thing during most of his time in Denver, where the third pick of the 2003 draft led the Nuggets to eight straight winning seasons and playoff appearances after eight straight losing seasons before his arrival. Martin arrived in July of 2004, when he agreed to a sign-and-trade that sent him from New Jersey to Denver in large part because of Anthony's presence.

And while they never won a championship together, there was no shortage of good times shared. They won 50-plus games the last four seasons, and reached the Western Conference finals in 2009 before falling to the Lakers in six games.

But after Martin left his Chinese Basketball Association team (Xinjiang) in late December and returned to the United States, he began to notice the anti-Anthony message coming out of Denver. Nuggets coach George Karl had routinely discussed his team's new style and how the absence of Anthony made his job easier. The Melo-drama, as it was dubbed, clearly bothered Karl before Anthony was traded to the Knicks last February. Martin, however, said Karl's comments went too far.

"Man, listen, George needs to keep his mouth shut, first and foremost," Martin said. "Melo don't play there no more. So Karl shouldn't be commenting on Melo. If George was such a great coach, then Melo would want to stay. He wouldn't want to leave.

"If the organization was ran right, he wouldn't want to leave, so it ain't Melo. With Melo, not one time when he was there did he bring that in the locker room when all that stuff was going on. Not one day. Everybody made it a bigger deal than it had to be. That's a good kid.

"They act like this kid was a cancer, like he came in there and destroyed the locker room and made everybody hate him. No, it wasn't nothing like that man. And it bothers me for people to be talking about how he's a selfish player and he has to defend himself."

The Nuggets, who got off to a 15-7 start but have lost seven of their last nine games, cut ties with a number of core players from their recent teams.

"They've got the team they wanted now," Martin said. "They got all us out of there. They didn't offer me an extension, they traded [Anthony], J.R. [Smith] is gone [to New York]. They've got the team they want. So why doesn't [Karl] worry about coaching them and leaving Melo alone -- bottom line? It bothers me for them to keep harping at that."

Martin, whose Clippers fell to 19-10 on Saturday with an overtime loss to San Antonio, will be rooting for the Knicks as some sort of strange revenge.

"I just hope [Anthony] comes in and they play well," he said. "Because if not, then it's going to be a whole other can of worms."

Knicks fans are too bipolar, though.

Whenever Amare being traded was mentioned (even in passing) it was "WHAT BETRAYAL!! HOW COULD YOU TRADE AMARE AFTER HE SAVED NY"... now you have people calling for his head at every miss. Newsflash.. Amare was never a defender. This is who he is. If he's not getting his touches and involved, he can disappear in games. Not to mention, Tyson is clogging the paint where he used to operate.. AND he's not blowing past bigger 5's anymore. I'm not making excuses for his poor play.. but this is nothing shocking. Fans just HAVE to criticize someone. It's always D'Antoni's fault for every single problem. Toney Douglas is the worst player in the history of the game. Bill Walker is a moron. Now Amare is totally useless and has no value.

Great win.

Good last point there.. great win.. not every player is gonna be clicking at all times.. and sometimes it will look like D'antoni isn't making adjustments.. but it comes down to bringing in the W.. and that's why I don't bother putting too much blame anymore.. D'Antonio is the coach and Amaré and Melo are our stars. They just better bust #+% in practice

Historically, statistics suggest Carmelo Anthony has not always impeded ball movement or prevented offensive flow. Over the course of his eight-year career, Anthony has primarily played with three point guards – Andre Miller, Allen Iverson, and Chauncey Billups. When Melo is paired with a point guard able to control the offense, the numbers prove he is not simply a stop-and-hold isolation player.

In Carmelo’s Rookie year (03-04), with Miller running the point, the Nuggets finished 9[sup]th[/sup] in the league in assists per game. ‘Dre averaged 8.5 assists per 48 minutes – not a stellar number, but a solid one.  60% of the Nuggets FG’s were assisted, a number that held true regardless of whether or not Anthony was on the floor. In total, 55% of his baskets were assisted. The offense wasn’t just dumping it off and watching, but rather finding him in easy-to-score situations. Additionally, Anthony averaged 4asts/48 – an excellent number for a “shoot-first

the only funny thing about this, is the sad attempt to include his name.

anyways, good game. good win.

nice to see that JR/Novak got going in the 1st/2nd halves. but Amare seems like hes not really there. i know hes just playing to get his mind off the loss. so i guess we just have to cope with it.

it seems like we can trust Lin with the ball late in the game. cant wait to see BD play to give Lin some rest and to see what he can do. and cant wait for Melo to come back. i think having Melo would reduce Lins turnovers.

and its a good thing todays game was early b/c its a back-to-back, and Lin has to play against DWill tmrw. so its a little more rest.

Ban hammer for whoever posted those pics. I hate the racists jokes. Lin's earning his respect and let it be that. No need to go there.

Saw every quarter except the 4th and I will say this team is exciting. People are in denial if you think Melo won't have to adjust to this team. Just my opinion...I think he'll segue fine but you gotta keep in mind that he's literally been doing it all, running point, scoring, everything. Dunno what Amare's deal is, but he needs to breakout. He's looked bad on numerous plays.

Bill Walker said he wanted to start this season. Well, he got his wish. With JR here, its almost guaranteed that he'll take his tick. JR is a more considerable threat from outside and he can slash to the rim. Novak is a better shooter. JR in particular is going to be a fan favorite, from his flair from the dramatic to his Twitter..he looked like he was deferring to teammates this game.

Good barometer game to measure ourselves and start a winning streak. Lin played 45 minutes and historically, Mike D runs his stars into the ground. We need Baron to give good quality minutes while working himself into playoff shape.

Best part of today's game was seeing Novak doing the discount double check after hitting that 3 pointer

Can't wait to see Melo and B Diddy play tomorrow. Good thing we play the Nets tomorrow, so hopefully we blow them out and Lin gets some rest for playing all those minutes today.

Where's this article from? 'Bout time somebody broke things down statistically.
You can tell most of the haters never watched Denver play like you and I have. It's good to see that the numbers line up with the results on the court. They had one of the better transition offenses in the League for a while.

Knicks are going to be great to watch in the 2nd half of the season. Too bad for their local fans that ticket prices are going to go even higher.
How does this guy have more sense and optimism than the majority of the Knicks fans in this thread? Good grief. Glad to see a few level-headed people in here at least.

Cuz hes a Nuggets fan, he knows what Melo does. The media is swaying all the people who dont actually watch games and just look at highlights with all this garbage about he is a Cancer. And if people just went back a year and a half before Melo became a Knick he was heralded as one of the best players in the league. Now all of a sudden hes a Knick and hes trash.
All this "I Hope Melo doesnt mess it up" @*%+ needs to just stop. Melo is gonna feast off single coverage the rest of the season. No more doubles and triples at the top of the key because he has to play point. Just man to man at the elbow in the triple threat (jumper, drive, kick out) and it is going to be scary for teams because either you let him beast his man all night or once you bring that double its 2 passes around the perimeter to JR or Novakane and teams are not gonna wanna get them going. Its crazy how one guy can change everything because he puts everyone back to their real roles on the team.

This team is going to be scary for the rest of the league after the all star break.

They'll be a legit contender way sooner than 2-3 years...
It can happen this season, no joke...
A second team unit led by J.R. Smith (energetic streaky shooter), Novak (3 point specialist), Shumpert (athletic defender), and Jefferies (intangible glue guy) can be as good as any in the league. But a backup point will be needed for Lin. 46 minutes in the 1st game of a back-to-back isn't gonna cut it.

Im a big Bulls fan and Knicks fan since my dad was, and the past few years no lie ive been on the Bulls ship to win a chip, but I honestly believe the Knicks have a chance to win it all this year IF they figure out a good rotation, players know their role, and the chemistry is on point. With so many good players on this team, its not even about being the superstar in Melo or Amare, now its everyone doing THEIR job on the floor and win a chip.

This is just an assumption, but maybe D'Antoni is planning on giving Davis some minutes against the Nets? He was on the bench in his uniform tonight but I don't think Pringles felt the need to play him since the Mavs were playing some physical defense. The last thing anyone wants is for him to get on the court and get laid out going up for a layup or something. Against the Nets, he would be playing against Jordan Farmar (assuming MDT takes Lin out when D Will is out) so it's not a difficult matchup, and the Nets defense isn't anything special. Plus, he'd be on the court with Melo so he wouldn't have as much pressure on him to create shots. Again, just an assumption, but very possible with Lin playing 42 minutes today

It's funny how we went from a crappy team with no depth to a deep team that can be a contender once our injured guys are back.

It's the same roster but nobody would have called this lineup deep if the whole Lin thing hadn't happened.

Lin/Davis
Fields/Smith/Shump
Melo/Novak/Walker
Amare/Jeffries
Chandler/Jorts

Kevin Hart

If Melo fits with Lins style and Amare stops playing like the Monstars took his talent we're up there with Miami which I thought would have never been possible in the Amare/Melo era, and this is all due to a guy who was a bench warmer 2 weeks ago.

I was at the game today, and it was awesome. Can all the nay sayers stop with the "oh he's just lucky," Jeremy Lin showed up the NBA champions. JR Smith was also pretty good, haven't really seen him play but I hope he could bring good things here. Novak with automatic 3's......all in all I think this showed the league that the Knicks mean business with Lin at the helm.

I'm glad Melo is gonna play tomorrow night because he needs to get his rustiness out against a weaker team. Don't want this dude to have off games against the Hawks n Heat. That's when his offense and matchup problems will come in handy most.

This.....The worst is being around people who dont really follow the game and make ignorant comments i never know when to tell em off or just bite my tounge, around here the casual observer thinks melo is the biggest cancer in sports and hasnt accomplished anything, @#@+ is comical

Everything you just said, man. Everything.

The regulars are enough already...now we got some of these new heads saying outrageous !$*+ too.

Like HTTB mentioned, a backup for Lin (B. Diddy) is sorely needed right now. I'm not expecting him to do anything crazy for the rest of the regular season...his goals should be to get in shape and back used to game speed. Just get it all together for the playoffs.

I'm a fan of Iman but I wished son relied on his athleticism more to drive it inside instead of settling for long shots that mess up the flow of the offense. Sometimes I believe he thinks he's an entirely different player than what he really is.
agreed, STAT is the second best scorer on this team, 1A Melo 1B Stat. That is always how it should be. Also, I hate shump taking jumpshots but love him when he drives to the basket. He is that type of player for me
