Perhaps some uplifting news.  Mark Herzlich article from the Boston Herald:

If Mark Herzlich ever needs a reminder of what exactly his goal is, he doesn’t have to look far.

The Boston College linebacker can gaze out the huge glass window of the Smith Family Strength and Condition Center on campus to the wall across the way, where hangs a huge life-sized poster of himself with the caption “2008 ACC Defensive Player of the Year.

Somebody once told me that, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13). If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be the Rajaan Bennett that you know today. I wouldn't have things any other way.

Strength is the ability to do or bear things in the state of being strong.

In the year of 2000, I moved from the streets of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, to the suburbs of Powder Springs, Georgia. A year later, my dad died in a horrible car wreck, and as a ten year-old, I knew he wasn't coming back. This tragedy rattled me to the core. I felt as if there was no need for me to live. I wanted to be as happy as the kids with dads and moms.

Some days I would wonder - why me? But eventually, I realized that it was my turn to become a man. As I became older, I came to notice that in life you use strength as a blanket to protect you from this cold world.

I am the oldest of 3 and I have a brother with special needs who I have to take care of. I have to balance school, sports, friends, and family - and it gets so hard, but I push myself. I push myself like a sprinter who is neck and neck with an opponent with 10 meters left. With the strength that I posses, I feel like I'm Hercules.

I matured faster than all of my friends - and there will never be a time that I will give up. I may complain, I may refuse, and I may even cry about it, but I know I have to do what I have to do.

I work hard at whatever I do - just for that man upstairs to smile down on me with the rays of the sun ...and they feel so warm. My drive cannot be stopped or even slowed down, because every obstacle has a way around it. Every day I become stronger from the weights physically, the books mentally, and life emotionally.

There is no limit to my strength and at the end of the day, I want to be known as the strongest.

Gunna I'mma need for you to stop bringing this stuff up lol. It's just so saddening

With every detail, the incident just gets crazier and crazier

Powerful little snippet right there... That whole situation is tragic... Seems like the kid REALLY had his life together... Sad to see anyone go, but especially when it's as good a kid as Rajaan seemed to be...

Back on recruiting... Texas is basically pulling Junior Day invites from kids and telling them not to come in town this weekend. Telling them they made mistakes with invites and ##$%.. They're basically full at receiver and DB though so it makes sense... Looks like they've moved on from Herschel Sims and Ladarius Brown, too... Sims is the most talented back in Texas this year, too. Just kinda small...

Texas A&M moved their big activities to Sunday to avoid conflict with Texas on Saturday...

Texas added Sedrick Flowers a couple days ago and Kendall Thompson (likely move to DE) and Garrett Greenlea today...

EA SportsThe exclusive first image of "NCAA Football 11." How many new features can you spot?

Numberson helmets might seem inconsequential to some gamers, but if you're anAlabama fan, the fact the video game recreation of your school doesn'taccurately represent the uniform details you cheer so hard for on aweekly basis has been driving you message board mad … as in, leavingthreats of "I'll never play the game again," on any sports gaming boardyou could find in hopes someone at EA will finally hear your cries.

Cry no more.

"Alabama fans, we hear you," says "NCAA Football 11" producer Ben Haumiller. "This game's for you."

That'sright, not only will "NCAA Football 11" finally feature Alabama's famedlook that includes numbers on helmets, but now when gamers create theirown schools using the wildly popular "Team Builder" (over 500,000 teamswere created last year), they can put numbers on the sides of theirhelmets then watch as they actually appear in-game.

But that's not all the "NCAA Football 11" creative crew has in store for this year's game.

ESPNcaught up with producers Haumiller and Russ Kiniry to get the dirt onsome of the improvements being made to "NCAA Football 11" that theywill be blogging about for EA Sports beginning next week. And while aslew of much bigger features will be announced in the near future, anyone who plays the game passionately will find some additions to thegame in this list that have been sorely needed for years.

"Thisis all stuff the fans and the community have been asking for," Kinirysays. "It's fun to finally be able to say, 'You wanted this? Got it.'"

1. The men in stripes

Thebest thing a referee can do is stay out of the spotlight. EA might havetaken that a bit far with "NCAA Football," though, as the officialsweren't even on the field as you played. But with "NCAA Football 11,"not only will the refs be on the field during every play, they'll evenuse some advanced avoidance logic to stay out of your way.

"Younotice that they're not there," Haumiller says of the previous "NCAA"games, "but now to see them on the field just makes everything seemmuch more authentic. Now you see them before the snap, during the play, setting the ball and that sort of thing. You see them actually interactas they would during a real game.

"And while they do havecollision detection, what's key is that they have avoidance. It's notlike the old PS2 days where you'd use the ref as an extra blocker foryou. Remember how you could set it up a certain way where the defenderwould float into the ref and just fall over? That's not happeninganymore." Also not happening, South Carolina quarterbacks gettingdropped by a polygonal official who suddenly has a flashback to his oldplaying days. "We're fortunate not to have our refs tackle as good asour middle linebackers," jokes Haumiller. "No forearm shivers from therefs in our game." South Carolina fans still aren't laughing.

2. Gang tackles

In"Madden," they refer to the gang-tackling technology as Pro Tak. Doesthat mean they need to rename the technology Amateur Tak for thecollege game?

"It's not as simple as just bringing thetechnology over from 'Madden'" says Kiniry as he talks about bringingthe up-to-nine-man gang-tackling system over from the pro game. "It hasbeen tweaked and tuned to improve on the system. Like last year, whenyou played 'Madden' and one of the big tackles happened, play wouldalmost stop, like it would pause for a second. We wanted to make itmore smooth and make sure we had the right guys involved in everytackle and make sure we had the right frequency. It's bringing over thesystem from 'Madden' while at the same time making it better."

AddsHaumiller: "New technology will always have some kinks to work out, butwe have those addressed now and really smoothed it out."

3. Auto save

Everplay a game and forget to save, only to turn the system back on laterin the day and wonder what happened to the bowl you had just won or thestats you had worked so hard to accumulate? EA finally has it coveredfor those of us (me!) who forget to save our progress at the mostinopportune times.

"Auto save is now there for all partsof the game," Haumiller says. "Whether you're saving settings orrosters, whether you just finished a game in Road to Glory or whetheryou're competing in an offline Dynasty, it's all saved. Say you wereplaying in a Dynasty last year and you won five trophies and while yousaved your Dynasty, you didn't save your profile, you lost thosetrophies forever. That sucked. That was no good. Now your trophy casewill be filled with whatever you won and you no longer need to worryabout whether or not you remembered to save. It's all taken care of foryou. We saw how great this worked in games like 'FIFA' and 'NHL' and itwas just natural for us to do it, too.

"It's just one ofthose things that slips your mind sometimes. You're hustling to get outof the house and you don't think about saving. We had the quick savefeature, and that was nice, but it was still something you had tophysically do. Now it's all just automatically taken care of for you."

And for those who don't like auto save for whatever reason, there will be an option to turn it off.

4. Auto load rosters

Ifyou like to switch between modes often, this next one is for you. "Thiswas just a glaring omission in years past," Haumiller admits. "When youfinished a Dynasty game and backed out to the main menu, we would dumpout the roster you were just using in your Dynasty file and reload theroster that came on the disc. That's fine if that's the roster youalways use, but if you're someone who always edits your roster or ifyou just downloaded a roster, that new roster is the one you prettymuch want to use when you head into a new Dynasty or if you go intoPlay Now or start a Road to Glory. So you would go through high schoolin Road to Glory and finish those four games, and you've alreadyinvested so much time into creating this character, but then you get tocollege and realize that you don't have the roster file that youthought you did.

"This is one of those features that youreally won't notice now that it's there, but you always missed when itwasn't. Now as soon as you download a new roster online, you can checkit out right away. You no longer have to go through the whole processof loading that new roster into memory. Now that's done for youautomatically. When you download a new roster file, it willautomatically be loaded as the current roster file. It's just a way tohelp clean up the experience and making it an easier process so youdon't need to jump through a bunch of hoops to get where you want togo."

5. Formation subs

If there's onething that has been driving me nuts about "NCAA Football" lately, it'sthe omission of formation subs. I just couldn't figure out why itwasn't possible to substitute on a per-formation basis anymore.PlayStation 3 technology is better than PlayStation 2, right? Theproducers finally heard my pleas.

"Formation subs are back… that's the best way to put it," Kiniry says. "It's exciting for us aswell because I love running two-back systems, and there's nothingbetter than to be able to set up different formations with differentbacks. So now, just like how it worked on PS2, you'll be able to go inand for each formation, you'll be able to choose who you want in there.Cool thing is, you can do it while in-game in the pause menu, but forme, the biggest part is that it's a front-end option in Dynasty, aswell. So now, you can set up your Dynasty and Online Dynasty in thebeginning of the year, and barring injuries, you can let it ride out,and those are your formation subs for the rest of the year.

"Nowyou can set up who you want as your hands team for an onside kick orwho you want as the up back when you're running a fake punt … stufflike that. And even in a bigger case, if you plan to run with an optionquarterback, now you can set up your flexbone and wishbone formationand not have to worry about subs when you're calling your plays. Nowyou have your formations subs already in there and you're ready to go."

AddsHaumiller: "This is by far the biggest request we've received from thecommunity. They've asked for it and we were finally able to deliverthis year. We're excited to let fans know that this is the type ofapproach we're taking with 'NCAA Football 11.' This year is really allabout giving the fans what they want."

6. New equipment

Whencreating players, you can never have too much equipment. Whether it'svisors or facemasks or helmets, EA is providing even more for gamers totinker with in terms of the overall look of players this year.

"Wehave a handful of new facemasks and helmets, like the Revolution Speedhelmet," Kiniry says. "We also added some injury gear like a kneebrace, ankle brace, elbow guard and an elbow brace. So now youroffensive lineman will have one or two knee braces, and this justreally helps bring more authenticity to the look of the game. For us,it's about keeping up with what's new on the field and making sure wehave all of this equipment in the game.

"There are alsosome new sleeves in the game as well, like three-quarter sleeve, halfsleeve, and then you can do right and left sleeve separately. And thenthe biggest two for the new equipment are towels and hand warmers. Sonow you can set up your QB with the hand warmer and a towel … everybodyloves towels. There's just a certain look to a player that you want tohave, and hopefully now you can do it. You want to make sure yourplayers are looking right."

7. Single bowl season

Ifyou played Online Dynasty last year, and had to wait for days while thelong process of bowl games played out, you'll be happy to know that theissue has been addressed with what EA Sports is calling the single bowlseason.

"Previously, all of the bowl games were playedover the course of three different weeks," Kiniry says. "So if someonewas playing in Week 1, but you weren't playing until Week 3, you had tosit and wait for him to finish before you could move on. So now, basically what we did is combine all of the bowls together so thateverybody can play their bowl games just like it was any other week inDynasty. It just really speeds up the process and makes it way easierto get through.

"What we noticed last year is it wastaking forever to get through bowl season for most online dynasties outthere. Bowl season was taking three, four, five days to get through, while the average week was only taking a couple of days at most. Wedon't want you to have all that dead time waiting for everybody tofinish."

8. Dynamic conference logos

Oneof the strange graphical glitches in last year's game was when youswitched a school like Stanford out of the Pac-10 and into a conferencelike the WAC. Sure, they might have switched conferences in the menu, but when you actually played a game and looked at the Stanford field,it still said Pac-10 on it.

"Like you said, during Dynastyand with custom conferences where you can switch teams around put ateam like Miami in the SEC or whatever, the field art last year stillhad the old conference logos on it," explains Kiniry. "So what we didnow is have it where the field art updates anytime a team changesconferences. This gives you a more authentic, real appearance, especially since we adjust the conference logos to make them look likethe team really moved. What would the SEC logo look like on a Miamifield? A lot of times they colorize the conference logos to match thecolors of the school that just changed."

Adds Haumiller:"So instead of getting a bland, generic WAC logo, if you move Alabamato the WAC for whatever reason, the logo will take on that crimson andwhite look as far as the outlines and the colors for that WAC logo. Itwill look as if Alabama really went to the WAC in terms of what thatconference logo will look like on the field."

9. Numbers on helmets

Touched on this in the intro, but Alabama fans, EA is listening.

"Thisis just one of those things where we finally figured out how to getover that technological hurdle of displaying dynamic numbers for allthe players on the field for Alabama or for a Team Builder school thatwants to utilize this feature," Kiniry says. "During the actualgameplay, we just couldn't display the numbers before, but now you'llactually see them. It will finally look and feel like you would expectwhen you play as Alabama."

"This is an iconic look andI'm glad we were finally able to get it in the game," adds Haumiller."If you are an Alabama fan, you looked at our game last year with thesolid-colored helmets and it just killed you. We wanted to do a littlemake good with Alabama fans on this one, and it's just one of thethings that fits with our theme this year, and that's creating the gamethat the community and the fans have been asking for.

"It'svery exciting, the stuff we're doing with the game. I personallyhaven't been more excited with a feature set than what we're doing with"NCAA Football 11.' What we just told you about, these are just some ofthe small things that we've added, some of the building blocks. We havea lot more to announce in the coming months, but this is a reallyexciting year for us. This is the game the fans have been waiting for. "

Damn, Rajaan was a powerful man. Sad to see his life cut short.

The freshmen on Michigan that should have an impact:
Demarr Dorsey - Special Teams and secondary.
Cullen Christian- Same as above
Devin Gardner - If nothing more to just give some comp to the other two and make them work harder.
Kenny Wilkins - 6-3 245lbs before he hits campus and should be in the mix to play some DE/OLB
Jibreel Black - Has enough size to get in there for the mix at DE. So weak on the DL depth wise we need frosh to do something.

Hopefully this class will redshirt around 22 of the 27 because the previous two classes will have matured and provide some depth.

Craig "Death" Roh is about to become a problem. If the kid has added anywhere near 10-15 from last year, he will be a beast. Kid has a non stop motor and has a spin move that is deadly. So excited about him. Kid is going to be a star.

Glad to see this guy back for the spring, gonna tear up the ACC

and I'd like to see if theres any type of Defense in South Bend besides Te'o,

Floyd's back, Rudolph's back Cryst is finally gonna start.

same out come as last year, early BCS talks, but faltering down the stretch

I skipped NCAA Football last year, I will not skip it this year.

Gave Madden a chance
sick.gif
, probably never again, although I'm the only one of my friends that has NCAA every year (except last year), so I will have to buy Madden too.

I'm hoping Prater and Woods make some noise as freshmen.  Also with McCoy moving on and with Rhett Ellison and Blake Ayers never really taking over the TE position when McCoy was out, I think Grimble and Telfer have a chance to make an impact.

The OL has some major holes as well, plenty of opportunity on the offensive side of the ball.
