"Mob Week" on AMC appreciation :haaaaaaaaatttt

It seems people either love scarface or hate it. I think it's somewhere in the middle, not as bad as some make it out to be and not as good as others hype it up. Definitely not up there with The Godfather 1&2, goodfellas, casino, or A Bronx Tale. But I enjoyed it. I liked it more than Carlito's Way which everybody seemed to love, but I didn't really care for it.

I spent 8.5 hrs in the last 2 days watching both Godfathers on AMC....smh I need to download them asap, as I'm sure they're better on dvd.

I own the untouchables but didn't like it as much as I thought I would....as stated, a very bold line between good guy vs bad guy.

untouchables is terrible, even though i love scarface, theatrically it isnt that great but its a hell of a lot better than untouchables, the hell was de palma thinking

would have been nice if they finished by premiering the departed

agree that the untouchables is terrible. Only a few good moments in that movie. I was shocked at how bad it was when I watched it for the first time

scarface is overrated but still very entertaining.

I actually got a chacne to watch Untouchables last night. I liked it.
Goodfellas is still my favorite though.

What comes on tonight?

The movie is so hoakey, cheesy, and over the top. It's also way too good guy vs bad guy for me, on some Saturday morning cartoon +*!+. In the best mob movies, that line is much more blurred and complicated.

Plus,  Kevin Costner's acting was terrible in it...

Only saving grace is Sean Connery
That was DePalma's intention. He wasn't trying to re-make the Godfather's drama

It's a cops vs. robbers nostalgia based on prohibition events. Nothing else. That's what makes it great. It's a throwback. And if you've seen old gangster movies, you'll probably appreciate it more.

all that hokeyness doesnt help when its a MEH concept to begin with, the type of MEH concept that needed strong direction which de palma sure as hell didnt give it, especially not with kevin costners acting

i dont even consider it a mob movie and i wonder who else on here agrees

I agree that it's not your prototypical "mob" movie in the purest sense of the genre. i.e. the Godfather, Once Upon a Time in America, Donnie Brasco etc.

Depends on what your interpretation of the "mob" is.

AMC is using the word "mob" as opposed to mafia,

scarface is a mob movie, pulp fiction is mob related with about half focusing on the mob, both are not mafia movies while untouchables features the mafia but not a mob movie

also whats with the hate on scarface in here?  its not goodfellas or the godfather but its on par or even better than everything else being shown this week, are people just annoyed by the hype it receives from the urban community?
